Bekanntlich entsteht beim Erhitzen von Ammoniak und schwùiliger S ! iure beziehungs, weise Ammoniumbisulfit mit Wasser neben Schwefel und freier Schwefelsäure Ammoniumsulfat. Geht man von konzentrierten Lösungen des Bisulfites aus, so kristallisiert, eventuell nach vorangegangener Neutralisation der freien Schwefelsäure, zwar ein Teil des Ammoniumsulfats aus, der andere aber, der in der Mutterlauge enthalten ist, konnte nur durch Eindampfen gewonnen werden.
Es hat sich nun gezeigt, dass man den kostspieligen Eindampfprozess in der Weise umgehen kann, dass man die Ammoniumsulfatlauge direkt bzw. nach Entfernung des auskristallisierten Salzes mit Ammoniak und schwefliger Säure bzw. mit Ammoniumbisulfit, das ammoniumsulfithaltig sein kann, behandelt, so dass sie mit dem Bisulfit völlig oder nahezu gesättigt wird. Es wird hiedurch eine reichliche Abscheidung von in der Lange enthaltenem Ammoniumsulfat bewirkt.
