Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

 EMI1.1

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

   Process for the production of pure alkali or. ammonium-free cerium (IV) vanadate
 EMI1.1

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

   Since only tetravalent cerium, in contrast to trivalent cerium and the other lanthanides, is precipitated under the working conditions mentioned for the production of pure cerium (IV) vanadate, these cerium (IV) compounds can also be produced from solutions of mixtures of rare earths in which Cer was previously oxidized to the tetravalent stage.

   The pure cerium (IV) vanadates produced by the process according to the invention are used in an excellent manner for coloring glasses and are used for the production of tin oxide or tin oxide. Zirconia-containing stains use. These color bodies are used with particular advantage as yellow pigments for coloring ceramic products.

   Furthermore, these pure cerium (IV) vanadates can easily be further processed into pure cerium oxide.

   Example: Production of pure cerium (IV) vanadate.

   10 g of ammonium cerium (IV) nitrate are dissolved in 41 water containing 20 ml of concentrated nitric acid. This solution is brought to a pH of 1.5. A vanadium solution containing 2.8 g of sodium vanadate (NaVO.lHO) in 100 ml of water is then added. The solution with the deposited cerium (IV) vanadate is heated to about 80-100.degree. After settling, the practically quantitative precipitate of cerium (IV) vanadate is washed free of nitrates by decanting several times with warm water.

   The washed product is dried at 110.degree. The dried, ground cerium (IV) vanadate is yellow-brown in color.

    PATENT CLAIMS:
1. Process for the production of pure alkali or. ammonium-free cerium (IV) vanadate, characterized in that solutions of cerium (IV) salts are reacted with sodium or ammonium vanadate in a nitric acid medium and the precipitates formed are separated from the reaction solution after washing.

Claims (1)

2. The method according to claim 1, characterized in that in the production of cerium (IV) vanadate to achieve an optimal yield before or during the precipitation, a pH range of 1.0 to 2.0 is maintained.
