<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
Auf der Zeichnung, sind Ausführungsbeispiele der Erfindung dargestellt, u. zw. zeigen : Fig. 1 eine schematische Ansicht des Einbaues der erfindungsgemässen Vorrichtung in die Saugleitung zwischen dem Vergaser und dem Zylinderkopf eines Verbrennungsmotors ; Fig. 2 einen Schnitt durch den Luftzuführungs- stutzen ; Fig. 3 einen Schnitt durch die in die Saugleitung eingesetzte Mischkammer ; Fig. 4 einen Schnitt durch die Mischkammer der Fig. 3 nach der Linie IV-IV ; Fig. 5-einen ähnlichen Schnitt durch eine andere Ausführungsform der Mischkammer ; Fig. 6 einen Schnitt durch die Mischkammer gemäss Fig. 5 nach der Linie VI-VI ; Fig. 7 einen Schnitt durch die Mischkammer gemäss Fig. 5 nach der Linie vn-VII ; Fig. 8 einen Schnitt durch eine andere Ausführungsform einer Mischkammer ;

Device switched on in the mixture intake line to
Post-atomization of the fuel condensate
It is known that in carburetor engines some of the fuel-air mixture drawn in is in the
Suction line condenses and merges into a trickle, whereby fuel in the liquid state enters the combustion cylinder. Part of the fuel does not do any work in this way, but is partly deposited on the cylinder wall, leads to the dilution of the lubricating oil and, due to imperfect combustion, produces soot and carbon formation as well as, and this is a main disadvantage, CO
Gases.
It is known that in the mixture intake line between the carburetor and the cylinder inlet of internal combustion engines, devices that are additionally switched on for subsequent atomization of the gas along the inner wall of the
Suction line migrating, unifying to a trickle fuel condensate, in which the
Preparation of the condensate with the aid of additional air, which is regulated depending on the mixture throttle position, must be provided; however, these devices have so far not led to any practical success.
The new invention prepares the fuel condensate that forms in the mixture line, which connects to the downdraft carburetor of a gasoline engine, and thereby achieves complete combustion of the fuel supplied, which also has the consequence that firstly, the fuel consumption compared to such engines which are not equipped with a device according to the invention, is lower and, secondly and mainly, the CO gas content in the exhaust gases, especially at low speeds, is only a fraction of the amount occurring in the engines used up to now.
This goal is achieved through the combination of several features, namely through the volume-regulated supply of additional air depending on the mixture throttle position, in that the additional air inlet point is closer to the cylinder inlet than the carburetor and the shape of a narrow, i.e. H. in the circumferential direction several times longer than axially high slot, which extends at most a third over the inner circumference of the suction line, while the supply of additional air is omitted on the remaining part of the inner circumference.
There is also a known device to be mentioned, in which, however, the quantity-regulated supply of additional air depending on the mixture throttle position is missing. A hand lever is provided for this so that the condensate processing is left to the discretion of the operator. If this lever is operated, for example, when there is no condensate present, the mixture is too lean and a reduction in performance occurs. Furthermore, instead of a slot-shaped entry point for the additional air, a large round hole is provided in the supply line, so that a targeted and metered supply of additional air is not possible. In addition, no sufficiently sharp edges are formed at the entry point, which, however, is very beneficial for the post-atomization of the condensed fuel.
In addition, it was not previously intended by this and similar known devices to carry out a condensate treatment.
In another known device, the additional air inlet point is immediately after the carburetor, so that condensate can form again between the air inlet and the cylinder inlet, which in this case is not removed, because only in this area does the mixture intake line form, like experiments with transparent lines show that the trickle of condensate only really emerges, which can only be achieved by
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
inventive arrangement is detected. A further condensation after the device is switched on according to the invention is then hardly possible any more because of the short distance to the combustion chamber, supported by the temperature of the valve chamber, which becomes noticeable.
In the last-mentioned known device, the slot-shaped design of the air supply is also missing, instead the additional air is blown into the mixture at an acute angle. As a result, the petrol droplets in the condensate are pressed against the cooler wall of the mixed line without fogging or gasification taking place.
Finally, there is a known device in which the additional air also enters directly at the carburetor, so that the problem of processing the condensate in the mixture line is not even addressed. In addition, there is no quantity-regulated supply of additional air depending on the mixture throttle position; the regulation is carried out by a hand-operated cable pull, so that the disadvantages of the known embodiment already discussed above arise.
The device according to the invention described above can be further improved by arranging an air nozzle in the air supply, whereby the additional air required during idling and flowing in through the slot is measured.
In a further embodiment of the invention, condensate collecting ribs are attached to the inner wall of the suction pipe, which ribs extend into the area of the additional air inlet. Immediately in front of this, which is designed as a slot, is a channel for the additional air required when idling, which is arranged so that it is directed towards an edge of the fresh air inlet slot attached to the inner wall of the intake manifold.
Finally, it can also be provided that in the area of the slot of the air inlet nozzle in the suction line, wholly or partially on the circumference of the inner wall of the suction line, at least one edge lying transversely to the flow in the suction line is attached, on which the condensate parts impinge and here either from the gas mixture or, depending on the position of the edge, can be captured and gasified by the fresh air supplied.
This tear-off edge can be formed either by a completely or partially circumferential rib or groove or step.
In a special embodiment of the invention, in which the edge is formed by a circumferential groove, this can adjoin the slot of the air supply connector directly on both sides.
In the drawing, embodiments of the invention are shown, u. FIG. 1 shows a schematic view of the installation of the device according to the invention in the suction line between the carburetor and the cylinder head of an internal combustion engine; 2 shows a section through the air supply nozzle; 3 shows a section through the mixing chamber inserted into the suction line; 4 shows a section through the mixing chamber of FIG. 3 along the line IV-IV; 5 shows a similar section through another embodiment of the mixing chamber; 6 shows a section through the mixing chamber according to FIG. 5 along the line VI-VI; 7 shows a section through the mixing chamber according to FIG. 5 along the line vn-VII; 8 shows a section through another embodiment of a mixing chamber;
9 shows a section through the mixing chamber according to FIG. 8 along the line IX-IX; Fig. 10 is a section through another embodiment of the mixing chamber; Fig. A small section through the mixing chamber according to Fig. 10 along the line XI-XI.
The installation of the device according to the invention in the suction line between the carburetor and the engine cylinder can be seen from the diagram in FIG. The carburetor 12 is a commercially available carburetor in which the air is sucked in from above through the air filter 13, while the fuel passes through the line 14 into the carburetor. At the outlet connection 15 of the commercially available carburetor sits on the continuous shaft 16 the throttle valve for regulating the mixture exiting the carburetor, which is not shown in the drawing because it is designed in the usual way as in the known carburetors. A double lever is keyed on the shaft 16, the upper arm 17 of which is connected as usual to the linkage 18 for actuating the throttle valve of the carburetor.
The lower arm 19 is connected to the lever 22 through the bolt 23 by the link 20, which engages with the bolt 21 at the lower end of the arm 19. The lever 22 is keyed on the axis 24, which is mounted in the air supply nozzle 25, which is shown in detail in FIG. The air supply nozzle is fastened to the flange 28 by means of the screws 29 by means of the bracket 26 and the screw 27. The flange 32 of the suction line 33 is connected to the downwardly directed flange 30 of the connecting piece 15 of the carburetor by means of the screws 31, the other flange 34 and the screws 35 being connected to the head 36 of the motor cylinder 37 in the usual construction.
The device according to the invention, which is referred to below as mixing chamber 38, is between the cylinder head 36

the slot tapers on both sides.
In the embodiment of FIGS. 8 and 9, a circumferential groove 61 is provided on the inner wall of the mixing chamber 38b, which groove 61 forms a tear-off edge 62 in the interior of the mixing chamber, to which the slot 52 adjoins on both sides. The tear-off edge promotes the fogging of the amount of condensate
EMI4.1
At the beginning of the mixing chamber 38a a partially circumferential rib 63 is formed.
Of course, if the circumstances of the respective case require it, several tear-off edges of any desired embodiment can also be arranged in the mixing chamber. In addition, it does not have to be absolutely necessary that the tear-off edge is located exactly opposite the air supply slot 52, but it can also be arranged offset to this.
