Filllschachtfeuerung.

Filling shaft firing.
The invention relates to a filling shaft firing system in which the degassing process merges continuously with the material settling vertically into the combustion process and the latter is maintained not only by supplying air through the grate closing the shaft at the bottom, but also by supplying air laterally at a greater distance above the grate.
The essence of the invention consists in the fact that the shaft is closed off at the base exclusively by a plan grate, part of which is covered by a screen wall protruding obliquely into the shaft against being buried by fuel and that the fuel is covered by a lateral, not down to Grates reaching air inlet opening air is supplied.
In the drawing, the subject matter of the invention is shown in an exemplary embodiment in FIG. 1 in longitudinal section and in FIG. 2 in front view. The relatively high shaft a is closed at the base by a plan grate n, under which the ash chamber m which can be closed by the door is located. At the top the shaft is closed by the flap g and above it by a flap f provided with adjustable air inlet openings, so that a chamber is created between the two flaps, from which the hose d leads to an air inlet opening b provided on the side of the shaft, which is countered by inclined diaphragm plates the fuel is protected from falling out.
Air enters the shaft through the openings of the flap f, so that the upper edge of the opening b also approximately delimits the upper combustion zone. Since the pulling effect in high shafts is not sufficient to suck the carbonization gases down from their upper parts, they will at best escape even under low pressure at the joints of the flap g. With the arrangement described, they are continuously extracted and fed back into the furnace. A screen wall, which extends obliquely downwards into the shaft and leaves a gap between its lower edge and the plan grate n, is placed under opening b.
The screen wall covers the front part of the plan grate n, so that combustion air flows downwards through this into the ash chamber and upwards again through the fuel lying on the rear part of the grate. The fresh air for the grate enters through the adjustable opening c of the door i.
The main purpose of the overall arrangement is to bring the material to incineration only to settle vertically, with the height of the combustion zone due to the height of the opening b above the grate, without slipping and rumbling, in order to prevent ash from being lifted over the layer where it is formed comes into hotter combustion zones and therefore forms slag.
