Description

Description
Electronic unit for a safety system actuation.
The present invention is related to an electronic unit for the actuation of a safety system, especially suitable for the realization of a virtual connection among two or more communication electronic devices placed at a certain distance among each other and connected to a safety system.
The aim of the present invention is to realize an actuation unit, that is advantageously used to allow the automatic effective operation in a wireless mode of safety systems, especially passive safety systems carried by one or more users of transport means or generally vehicles, e.g. airbag devices worn by bikers, which the following description will expressively be referred to without losing the generality.
Another aim of the present invention is that to realize a safety system being automatically activated on command of an actuation unit formed by one o more communication electronic devices being virtually connected with each other.
The structural and functional features of the present invention and its advantages compared to the known state of the art will be much more apparent and clearer from the claims below, and especially from an examination of the following description, referred to the attached figures that schematically show a preferred but not limiting embodiment of an actuation electronic unit, in which: figure 1 schematically shows a preferred embodiment of the actuation unit at issue in the present invention, figure 2 shows in details the components of the unit of figure 1 , figures 3 and 4 show pictures related to the application of the unit at issue to a vehicle and to the user of the vehicle itself, figure 5 and 6 schematically represent a safety system applied to a user and activated through the unit according to the present invention, and figure 7 shows the safety system of figures 5 and 6 in an open operating configuration.
With reference to the attached figures, with U an electronic unit for the automatic actuation of a safety system S combined with one o more users suitable for being subjected to a relative movement as to the fixed or movable structure Z is globally shown.
In the following description of the invention the system S is, preferably but not limited thereto, defined by an airbag device AB worn by a biker M user while he is driving a structure Z, such as a motorbike V or equivalent (figures 3 and 4) as a protection of parts of the same user M biker’s body in case of sudden acceleration caused e.g. by an accident of the vehicle V (figure 4) due to an impact (crash), jump (high side) or slide (low side) or sudden equivalent events.
According to what schematically illustrated in figures 1 and 2, the unit U includes a first electronic device D1 suitable for being anchored to a section of the structure of the vehicle V and at least a second electronic device D2 (two devices D2 shown in figure 1) suitable for being hooked to the safety system S carried by the user M.
During the use the two devices D1 and D2 are suitable for communicating with each other exclusively in a wireless mode. The device D1 includes an UltraWideBand low consumption transceiver 1 and a battery or external source operated power module 2.
The device D2 includes, preferably but not limited thereto, an UltraWideBand low consumption transceiver 3, an inertial platform 4, an interface module 5 to download and store data, a microprocessor operated control unit 6, a battery operated power module 7 and a actuation drive module 8 of the safety system.
The movement of the vehicle V is suitable for being detected by the inertial platform 4 of the hooking device D2 so that it supplies an arming system of the same device D2, that will be activated ad a speed being determined at a trial stage, when it detects an electronic anchoring device D1 placed within a prefixed distance, so to form a “virtual wire” for the direct connection between the two devices D1 and D2.
An automatic zero set of unit U is realized that may be allowed to operate on different types of vehicles, advantageously being able to use even just one device D2 connected to many anchoring devices D1 assembled on different vehicles.
Suitable algorithms preset for the operation drive of the unit U allow the two devices D1 and D2 to fix the maximum distance and the allowable parameters of the platform beyond which the safety system S has to be actuated.
The operation of the unit U is the following: the microprocessor operated control unit 6 of the device D2, equipped with a non volatile memory, is suitable for recording a time frame of two minutes and the maximum values (apart from the occurrence time thereof) of the monitored data from the platform 6 and from the transceivers 1 and 3, e.g. the acceleration speed of the vehicle V, the distance from the ground, and especially the distance from the devices D1 and D2, in addition to other contingent physical or calculated dimensions.
As soon as an event occurs that is caused by the exceeding of the mentioned distance measured between the device D1 and the device D2 beyond the fixed range, as in the case of an accident of the vehicle V (figure 4) caused by an impact (crash), jump (high side) or slide (low side), the control unit 6 of the device D2 is therefore able to efficiently actuate at once the safety system S in order to actuate the user biker’s M protection, who drives the motorbike V, by furthermore actuating in the volatile memory consequently the permanent recording of the minute after actuation, usefully supplying in this way the data of the minute before and after of the event. According to what illustrated in the figures from 5 to 7 a safety system S carried by the user M and activated through the above-described unit U furthermore includes an item of clothing suitable for being worn by the user M and supporting the hooking device D2.
The item of clothing is preferably defined by a vest G, it is combined with an airbag activated bag K on command of the unit U, by a cold gas operated cartridge C intentionally studied for the use in technical items for bikers and applied on the rear part of the vest G.
The bag K is preferably equipped with a substantially “saddle”- shaped outline on its own rear part Pp, that is tight to the user’s M back who wears the vest G, and essentially shaped with two “L”-shaped opposite borders on its own front part Pa, that is tight to the user’s M thorax, who wears the vest G.
In this way the vest G is suitable to provide an adequate and efficient protection of the user’s M back areas, neck, ribs and clavicles.
Finally is it to be noted that the device D2 is able to signal the actuation of the unit U with a suitable visual led-alarm being directly placed on the external shell of the device D2 itself or optionally with an acoustic alarm with a coded beep sequence and furthermore the connection/disconnection to the device D1 , or the presence of contingent failures or defects, e.g. on power batteries.
