Abstract

The invention is a system related to the closure of the arterial entrance point following angiography.

Description

ANGI OGRAPHY ENTRANCE CLOSURE SYSTEM
Technical Field
The invention is related to the closure of the arterial entrance point following angiography.
Background of the Known State of the Art ( Prior Art) Angiography is the entire procedure related to entering into the artery with the help of thin plastic catheters, taking an x-ray of the artery by injecting a coloured substance into the artery and diagnosing the condition and even giving vascular occlusion treatment at the same time, if necessary, by means of methods such as using a balloon or stents.
Applying pressure onto the entrance for half an hour and placing a sandbag in order to stop entrance related arterial bleeding following angiography procedures is a known old method and is still being used. Another method is applying closure devices and special closure materials onto the artery entrance or stitching the entrance. I n this method, there is no need to apply pressure by hand onto the related area. Additionally, there are systems which close the entrance to the artery endovascularly with suture or foam . Suture systems carry all the risks of suture complications while the foam systems again risk embolism by leaving pieces inside the artery.
Brief Description and Purposes of the I nvention The invention is related to the inj ection of an embolisation agent onto the exact point of the entrance by locating the entry point before entering inside the artery.

Detailed Description of the I nvent ion
I n the invention, a system related to closing the artery by means of sending an embolisation agent to the entrance point of the artery after the angiography procedure is described. The embolisation agent used is the mixture of n-butylcyanoacrylate and octylcyanoacrylate and the ratio of n-butylcyanoacrylate: octylcyanoacrylate is 4: 1 . The mentioned embolisation agent is polymerized the moment it contacts the tissue and seals the entrance point immediately.
I n the subj ect system of the invention , the artery is not penetrated because of high arterial pressure. The system is constituted of a side port (8) which allows polymer (n- butylcyanoacrylate and octylcyanoacrylate m ixture) injection together with a arterial entrance and radiopaque location finding system which progresses through a guide wire.
Following the angiography procedure, the dilator/internal catheter (4) is inserted into the artery through the wire. By means of an injector, the entry point is detected at the moment when blood comes from the catheter lumen. The polymer exit point located a little above the entrance is radiopaque and it is connected to the side port through which the polymer will be supplied. At this point, the polymer is injected right onto the arterial entry point, the system is retracted and the procedure is completed with a 1 -minute pressure.
As the power supply (6) , a 9V alkali battery is used and as the light source (7) , a LED diode is used in the system subject to the invention . The external catheter (5) is 7F in diameter and the dilator/catheter (4) is 6F in diameter. While the three-way tap (3) is used in order to connect the aspiration and drug release paths, the 'plastic handle' (2) is used as housing of the system .
