Description

A TYRE ESPECIALLY FOR CAR/AIRCRAFT AND OTHER WHEELED
VEHICLE WHEELS
The object of the invention is a tyre especially for car/aircraft and other wheeled vehicle wheels, which ensures its safe use even after damage to outer cord structure.
There are tyres resistant to puncture generally known, namely the tyres fit for use in the uninflated condition. One of such solutions described in the US Patent Description: US4.1 11.249, which has used a band or annular compression element directly underneath the tread, of approximately the same width. The annular element in connection with the tyre structure can carry the vehicle weight in the uninflated condition. In fact, such a tyre with the annular element stabilizes the cords even when deflated. That solution is known under the name of "Run Flat".
Another solution to this problem is to reinforce the sidewalls by increasing the thickness of their cross-section. Such tyres, when running flat, maintain the cords and sidewalls in a compressed condition, but due to a large amount of rubber needed to stiffen the side parts considerable heat accumulates in the tyre, which is the main cause of bursts in such tyres. The circumstance occurs when the tyre operates in the uninflated condition at high speeds for a longer period of time. There are solutions known from Polish Patent Applications No. P.205303 and P.240946 regarding tyres for vehicles intended to improve driving safety by eliminating threats related to puncturing traditional pneumatic tyres, based on one common principle, namely that it is possible to reach the nearest service station without the need to change the wheel in case of tyre puncture. This is achieved by automatic activation of a mechanism which causes the space normally filled with compressed air to be filled, e.g., by expanded elastomer instead or through of a relevant tyre design.
There are safe tyres for vehicles known from the Polish Patent Description No. 183670, which are characterised in that they consist of a number of identical conical or cylindrical repeatable elements arranged one next to the other in several rows, around the whole periphery of the wheel rim. Ail the elements have been made of typical rubber compound for tyres, where free spaces between these elements are filled with elastomer of non- skid properties. The axes of symmetry of these elements run radially to the wheel axis. In the preferable form of the invention, these elements are vulcanized with a metal base encircling the wheel rim and forming the integral whole with that rim.
In another preferable form of the invention, the said conical or cylindrical elements are mounted in holes with the diameter identical as the diameter of these elements made in metal casing surrounding the meta! base at a certain distance from the latter.
The common disadvantage of all the solutions known is that in case of tyre puncture the characteristics of vehicle driving changes drastically, which in turn considerably hinders driving and prompts the driver to s!ow down considerably. Furthermore, driving further with the tyre damaged, due to change to its characteristics, causes the tyre to wear down faster in comparison the other tyres. Another disadvantage common for all the tyres used so far, especially as regards large wheel diameters and tyres intended for heavy vehicles, is a relatively big weight of a tyre tread portion which, especially due to a considerable distance between this portion and the wheel axis of rotation, causes high centrifugal forces, especially at high speeds, which has a considerable impact on tyre life.
The purpose of the invention is to design a tyre which will not cause perceptible change to vehicle driving characteristics after puncture and will enable its long operation.
The tyre especially for car/aircraft and other wheeled vehicle wheels fitted with the tread on its basic periphery, adapted for being mounted on wheel rims, according to the invention is characterised in that the tread has on its surface a number of convexities which walls together with the tread portion form closed tight chambers, whereas the inner tread side has projections mounted in the slots of the wheel rim fitted with a ring, and the convexities form the tread profile. The chambers are filled with gas with pressure higher than atmospheric pressure. The chambers are filled with elastic material, especially elastomer. The chambers are filled in part of their volume with colourful liquid signalling tyre damage.
The object of the invention has been shown in the example of embodiment in a drawing, where Fig. 1 shows a half section of the tyre especially for car/aircraft and other wheeled vehicle wheels, Fig. 2 shows a longitudinal section of the tyre especially for car/aircraft and other wheeled vehicle wheels made through the projection, Fig. 3 shows a top view of the tyre especially for car/aircraft and other wheeled vehicle wheels. As shown in the drawing, the tyre for especially car/aircraft and other wheeled vehicle wheels is fitted with the tread 1 on its basic periphery H and adapted for being mounted on the wheel rims 10. The tread 1_has on its surface 2_a number of convexities 3, which walls 4 together with the tread I portion form closed tight chambers 5, whereas the inner tread side has projections 6 mounted in the slots 7_of the wheel rim §_fitted with the ring 10 fixed to it with the screws 12, and the convexities 3_form the tread 1 profile. The chambers 5 are filled with gas with pressure higher than atmospheric pressure or the chambers 5 are filled with elastic material £¾, especially elastomer. The chambers 5_can also be filled in part of their volume with colourful liquid, which would be released at the moment of wear through or other damage to the tyre structure, to signal damage to the tyre chamber §.
