図1(a)は、本実施の形態に係る波動歯車装置を示す端面図であり、図1(b)はそのb-b線で切断した部分を示す縦断面図である。波動歯車装置1は、所謂、フラット型波動歯車装置と呼ばれる形式のものであり、同軸に並列配置された第1、第2剛性内歯歯車2、3と、これらの内側に同軸に配置した薄肉弾性体からなる円筒形状の可撓性外歯歯車4と、この内側に嵌めた楕円状輪郭の波動発生器5とを備えている。
波動発生器5のプラグ6は、軸線方向に接合した3個の環状のプラグ分割片12、13、14から構成されている。各プラグ分割片12~14の外周面は、楕円状外周面7を分割した分割外周面12a~14aとなっている。プラグ分割片12~14は、それらの円周方向に所定間隔で取り付けた複数本の締結ボルト15によって同軸に接合されてプラグ6を形成し、それらの分割外周面12a~14aはプラグ6の楕円状外周面7を形成している。
図2は波動発生器5の製造手順を示す説明図である。まず、プラグ分割片12~14のそれぞれを製作する(プラグ片製作工程ST1)。次に、プラグ分割片12~14のそれぞれの分割外周面12a~14aに、ウエーブベアリング8~10を圧入する(ベアリング装着工程ST2)。しかる後に、ウエーブベアリング8~10が装着されたプラグ分割片12~14を同軸に軸線方向に重ね合わせ、締結ボルト15によって締結固定する。これにより、プラグ6の楕円状外周面7に3個のウエーブベアリング8~10が圧入された波動発生器5が得られる。
このように、波動発生器5は、単一部品のプラグの楕円状外周面に、3個のウエーブプラグを圧入固定する必要がない。よって、剛体であるプラグ6の楕円状外周面7に複数個のウエーブベアリング8~10が圧入固定された構成の波動発生器を、作業性良く、楕円状外周面7に損傷を生じさせることなく、製造することができる。
図3は、波動発生器5の別の例を示す半縦断面図である。この図に示す波動発生器20は、ウエーブベアリングの個数がプラグ分割片の個数よりも多い場合の例である。この場合には、少なくとも一つのプラグ分割片の分割外周面に2個のウエーブベアリングが装着される。
上記の実施の形態では、第2剛性内歯歯車3と可撓性外歯歯車4の歯数を同一としてある。これらの歯車3、4を異なる歯数として、これらの歯車3、4の間においても減速動作を行うようにすることも可能である。

- 波動歯車装置の可撓性外歯歯車を非円形に撓める波動発生器であって、
剛体であるプラグと、
前記プラグに形成した非円形外周面と、
前記非円形外周面に装着した少なくとも3個のウエーブベアリングと、

前記非円形外周面は、前記プラグ分割片のそれぞれに形成した分割外周面によって規定され、
前記分割外周面のそれぞれには、少なくとも1個の前記ウエーブベアリングが装着され、
前記ウエーブベアリングの個数が、前記プラグ分割片の個数よりも多い場合には、少なくとも一つの前記分割外周面に2個の前記ウエーブベアリングが装着されていることを特徴とする波動歯車装置の波動発生器。 - 前記プラグ分割片の個数は2であり、

前記ウエーブベアリングが装着された前記プラグ分割片を同軸に接合するプラグ片接合工程と、
