  • the terminal element 3 approaches the single part connector housing 5.
  • the terminal element 3 has entered the single part connector housing 5 through the opening 53.
  • the terminal element 3 is in the first reception cavity 51 .
  • the terminal element 3 can now be rotated until the terminal plug 35 rests at least partially in the second reception cavity 52. This can be effected by manually rotating the terminal element 3 or by pushing the terminal main part 34 in the second insertion direction B by means of a cover 55, a tool or the like.
  • the approach of the cover 55 in the direction of the housing 55 is shown, as will be described in detail below.
  • the electrical high power connector assembly 1 further comprises the cover 55 attachable to the connector housing 5.
  • the cover 55 comprises a base having spacer means 55' that fills the clearance 54 when the terminal plug 35 of the terminal element 3 rests at least partially in the second reception cavity 52, such that its return into the first reception cavity 51 is prevented.
  • the cover 55 can be used to push the terminal main part 34 in a second insertion direction B, so that the terminal plug 35 is at least partially inserted into the second reception cavity 52.
  • the cover 55 and the connector housing 5 are connectable by snap tabs 56.
  • the electrical high power connector assembly 1 further comprises a sealing element 57 arranged between the cover 55 and the connector housing 5 to improve the sealing properties of the electrical high power connector assembly 1 .
  • Another measure for improving the sealing properties is shown in the alternative embodiment of Fig. 4, namely the provision of a sealing element 33 arranged between the connector housing 5 and the cable 31 of the terminal element 3.
  • Such a sealing element 33 can also be provided with the embodiment of Figs. 1 to 3 comprising the cover 55.
  • the sealing properties can be further improved by the provision of a spreader and/or filling material (not shown) arranged between the terminal element 3 and the cover 55 and/or the connector housing 5.
  • the electrical high power connector assembly 1 preferably, further comprises a mate assist system 60, only shown in Figs. 1 and 3 for clarification purposes, which assures that the terminal element 3 and/or the connector housing 5 are correctly assembled.
  • the mate assist systems 60 may comprise a lever 61 which rotates around a rotation axis arranges on the connector housing 5.
  • Such mate assist systems 60 are, in general, known to the skilled person, so that it is refrained from a detailed description thereof.
  • the electrical high power connector assembly 1 according to the present invention is more robust than prior art housings which are assembled from several parts in order to allow for the mounting of the right-angled terminal elements. Due to the particular design of the inventive connector housing 5, a secure mounting of right-angled terminal elements is possible and the electrical high power connector assembly 1 is cheaper and has better sealing properties against environmental influences and copes better with vibrations and broader manufacture tolerances.
  • Figs. 4 to 8 illustrate another embodiment of the electrical high power connector assembly 1 according to the invention.
  • This second embodiment does not comprise a cover but is apart from that similar to the first embodiment of Figs. 1 to 3. It should be noted that in the figures like parts are designed with the same reference numbers.
  • the second embodiment according to Figs. 4 to 8 comprises a terminal element 3 with a terminal main part 34, a terminal plug 35 arranged essentially perpendicular to the terminal main part 34 and a single part connector housing 5.
  • the terminal element 3 is mounted to a cable 31 .
  • the single part connector housing 5 comprises a first reception cavity 51 which extends along a first insertion direction A and a second reception cavity 52 which extends along a second insertion direction B essentially perpendicular to the first insertion direction A.
  • the single part connector housing 5 further comprises an opening 53 for inserting the terminal element 3 in the first insertion direction A in the first reception cavity 51 .
  • a clearance 54 is provided into the single part connector housing 5, offering sufficient space for moving the terminal plug 35 into the second insertion direction B until the terminal plug 35 rests at least partially in the second reception cavity 52.
  • the clearance 54 enables a lateral displacement of the terminal plug 35 from the first reception cavity 51 into the second reception cavity 52, i.e. it is possible to dispose the terminal plug 35 into the second cavity 52 without the necessity for angular movement, although such an angular movement is possible. This facilitates automation of the assembly process.
  • Figs. 4 to 8 illustrate the process of inserting the terminal element 3 into the single part connector housing 5 according to the second embodiment.
  • the terminal element 3 has entered the single part connector housing 5 through the opening 53.
  • the terminal element 3 is in the first reception cavity 51 .
  • the first reception cavity 51 is adapted to provide enough space to insert the terminal element 3 in a linear movement, but also in an angled manner.
  • a spacer 58 is set onto the cable 31 .
  • the spacer 58 can be pushed into the connector housing 5 through the opening 53. Thereby, the spacer 58 pushes the terminal main part 34 in the second insertion direction B, so that the terminal plug 35 is at least partially inserted into the second reception cavity 52.
  • the spacer 58 Preferably, its return into the first reception cavity 51 is prevented by the spacer 58.
  • the spacer 58 has completely entered into the connector housing 5 and the sealing 33 is inserted in contact with the connector housing 5.
  • the spacer 58 is shaped to fill the clearance 54, such that the return of the terminal plug 35 into the first reception cavity is prevented.
  • the electrical high power connector assembly 1 further comprises the spacer 58 insertable into the connector housing 5 in the first insertion direction A to push the terminal plug 35 from the first reception cavity 51 into the second reception cavity 52 and to prevent its return into the first reception cavity 51 .
  • the spacer 58 may be arranged around the terminal element 3 and may have a U-shaped cross section to be plugged on the terminal element 3.
  • the spacer 58 may be connectable to the connector housing 5 and/or the terminal element 3 by snap tabs.
  • a sealing element 33 is provided to seal off the opening 53 of the connector housing 5.
  • the sealing properties can be further improved by the provision of a spreader and/or filling material (not shown) arranged between the terminal element 3 and the connector housing 5.
  • the electrical high power connector assembly 1 is adapted for 50 A to 500 A, more preferably 100 A to 250 A and 100 V to 400 V, even more preferably 150 A to 200 A and for 50 V to 800 V, more preferably 100 V to 400 V, even more preferably 200 V to 300 V.
  • the electrical high power connector assembly 1 is adapted for at least 10 kW, more preferably for at least 50 kW, even more preferably for at least 100 kW, and most preferably for at least 150 kW.

Abstract

La présente invention a trait à un ensemble connecteur électrique à haute puissance (1) qui comprend : - un élément de borne (3) qui est doté d'une partie principale de borne (34), - une fiche de borne (35) qui est agencée de façon essentiellement perpendiculaire à la partie principale de borne (34) et - un boîtier de connecteur (5), lequel boîtier de connecteur (5) comprend : - une première cavité de réception (51) qui s'étend le long d'une première direction d'insertion (A), et - une seconde cavité de réception (52) qui s'étend le long d'une seconde direction d'insertion (B), de façon essentiellement perpendiculaire à la première direction d'insertion (A), - au moins une ouverture (53) qui permet d'insérer l'élément de borne (3) dans la première cavité de réception (51) dans la première direction d'insertion (A), et - un espace libre (54) dans la première cavité de réception (51) qui offre un espace permettant de déplacer la fiche de borne (35) dans la seconde direction d'insertion (B) jusqu'à ce que la fiche de borne (35) repose au moins partiellement dans la seconde cavité de réception (52), lequel espace libre (54) est suffisamment grand pour permettre la rotation ou le déplacement latéral de la fiche de borne (35) depuis la première cavité de réception (51) jusque dans la seconde cavité de réception (52).
