Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a transmission chain with rollers or bushings with inner link with convex back and smaller outer link with a "figure of eight" or peanut shape, particularly suitable for the transmission of motion between rotating shafts in the automotive field.
  • Chain transmissions are among the means most used for transmitting power between two or more parallel rotating shafts: the chains used for the commanding of distribution in internal combustion engines are generally constituted by metal chains of the type with rollers or with bushings and provide for the use of chain tensioner and of chain guides for maintaining the proper tension of the chain itself should these chains be used in the automotive field.
  • Roller and bushing chains formed by links with "figure of eight" shape are normally used in transmissions in the motorcycle and industrial chains world: these chains are not used in the automotive sector in that the lack of contact surface provided by the "figure of eight" profile for the guide and chain tensioner slides would entail an excessive contact pressure and consequently excessive wear of the plastic surface of the slides. It is in order to limit this wear that many chains for applications in the automotive field provide inner and outer links with straight back (flat) so as to provide the chain tensioner with a large contact surface, reducing the pressure on this area.
