- the controller 240 is operatively connected to the ultrasonic welding machine 232 and the actuating device 238.
- a method of connecting a battery cell assembly to the battery cell interconnector and voltage sensing assembly 60 using the system 230 will be described. For simplicity, description will be made of ultrasonic welding of the two electrical terminals of the battery cell assembly to the electrical interconnector means of the assembly 60. However, it should be understood that a plurality of additional electrical terminals from the battery cell assembly can be welded to the electrical interconnector means.
- the user may connect the electrical terminal 202 of the first battery cell assembly through the slot 96 of the circuit board 70 such that the electrical terminal 202 contacts the outer wall 184 of the electrical interconnector 72. ).
- the user may connect the electrical terminal of the second battery cell assembly through the slot 98 of the circuit board 70 such that the electrical terminal 214 contacts the outer wall 182 of the electrical interconnector 72. 214).
- the controller 240 then induces the actuating device 238 to move the welding electrode 234 to approach the outer wall 184 and to adjoin the outer wall 184 of the electrical interconnector 72.
- the welding electrode 236 is moved close to the electrical terminal 202 disposed so that the electrical terminal 202 and the outer wall 184 are inserted between the welding electrodes 234 and 236.
- the controller 240 induces the ultrasonic welding machine 232 to utilize the welding electrodes 234 and 236 to ultrasonically weld the electrical terminal 202 to the outer wall 184.
- the controller 240 induces the actuation device 238 to move the welding electrode 234 to approach the electrical terminal 214 disposed adjacent to the outer wall 182, and the outer wall 182.
- the welding electrode 236 is moved close to) so that the electrical terminal 214 and the outer wall 182 are inserted between the welding electrodes 234 and 236.
- the controller 240 then induces the ultrasonic welder 232 to ultrasonically weld the electrical terminal 214 to the outer wall 182 of the electrical interconnector 72.
- the battery cell interconnect and voltage sensing assembly 60 provide substantial advantages over other methods of connecting battery cells together.
- the assembly 60 utilizes the electrical interconnector means to form a flow of electrical current from the battery cell assembly, and utilizes the electrical interconnector means on a circuit board to support electrical terminals from the battery cell assembly. Provide technical effect.
- the assembly 60 forms an electrical signal from the electrical interconnector means to the electrical connector via electrical traces and senses the voltage at each of the electrical interconnector means.
