Abstract

 複屈折を有する平板状のレーザ媒質(1)と、レーザ媒質(1)の厚さ方向に垂直な面の少なくとも一方の面に接合されるクラッド(2a,2b)と、によって導波路を形成するとともに、レーザ媒質(1)に入射される励起光により発生した利得でレーザ光を増幅し、レーザ発振を行う平面導波路型レーザ装置で、レーザ媒質(1)は、レーザ光の進行方向である光軸に垂直な断面内に光学軸を有する材料からなり、クラッド(2a,2b)は、レーザ媒質(1)中を光軸に沿って進む、振動面が互いに直交する2つの偏光に対する屈折率の間の範囲の屈折率を有する材料からなり、直線偏光のレーザ光を容易に発振する。
