Abstract

【課題】硬質被膜がコーティングされている硬質被膜被覆タップにおいて、軟鋼等にタップ立て加工を行なう場合でも切り屑がカールし易くなるようにして絡み付きを抑制し、工具寿命を向上させるとともにタップ立ての連続加工を可能とする。 【解決手段】切削加工によってねじれ溝(20)が形成されるとともに、熱処理が施された後に研削加工によってねじ部(16)が設けられ、切削加工によって形成されたねじれ溝(20)を含めてねじ部(16)の表面に硬質被膜(26)がコーティングされることにより、その硬質被膜(26)がコーティングされた状態でのねじれ溝(20)の表面粗さが最大高さRzで6.3~25μmの範囲内となるようにした。これにより、軟鋼等に対してタップ立て加工を行なう場合でも、切り屑がねじれ溝(20)に案内されてシャンク(12)側へ排出される際に、溝表面の凹凸によりカールしたり分断したりし易くなり、タップ(10)自身やホルダに絡み付くことが抑制される。
