Abstract

An objective lens for an optical pickup device which can record and/or reproduce information on/from an optical disk with high density with the use of a luminous flux of a short wavelength while keeping a temperature characteristic to be satisfactory in spite of having the plastic objective lens, and the optical pickup device. A wavelength characteristic is so sacrificed a little as to satisfy an expression (4) and the temperature characteristic is so improved as to satisfy an expression (3). This creates the objective lens where occurrence of spherical aberration can be suppressed even when temperature varies. A satisfactory temperature characteristic like this is obtained by providing the optical surface of the objective lens with an orbicular-zone structure composed of 3 to 30 orbicular zones and so formed that mutually adjacent orbicular zones generate a predetermined optical path difference with respect to incident light.
