Abstract

 複雑な機構を用いることなく、低コストで、同一の光束を用いるBDとHDの一つの対物光学素子での互換を可能とする光ピックアップ装置及び対物光学素子を提供するため、波長λ1(380nm<λ1<450nm)の第1光束を出射する第1光源と、第1光束を光ディスクの情報記録面上に集光させるための対物光学素子を有する集光光学系を有する光ピックアップ装置において、対物光学素子は、少なくとも、光軸を含む第1領域と、第1領域の周囲の第2領域とに分割され、第1領域を通過した前記第1光束は第1光ディスク及び第2光ディスクの記録及び/又は再生に用いられ、第2領域を通過した第1光束は第1光ディスクの記録及び/又は再生に用いられ、集光光学系は、対物光学素子の前記第1領域に相当する領域に補正面を有し、補正面は、段差によって光軸を中心とする同心円状の複数の領域に分割されている。
