Definitions
- the invention falls within the technical sector of the building as well as in the air conditioning sector. Specifically, the application focuses on transparent or translucent enclosures capable of controlling both the external and internal thermal load and the lighting of the building in order to produce energy savings in air conditioning and improve comfort conditions.
- enclosures have been developed that allow increasing the level of thermal insulation by including various sheets and materials forming a multilayer panel as described in the patent documents: FR2828509, DE10034764, DE19829480, DE19847634.
- Another type of development of intelligent transparent enclosures is to seek control of lighting and thermal load by means of one or more fluids of different colors, fluids with variable transparency properties or by curtains integrated in the enclosure. Examples of these embodiments include patent documents: US4347835, DE3716563, EP0402529, EP1367210, ES2158757, US4347835, WO200604587, DE10351023, DE3716563, DE3818543, WO9963195.
- Another group of active glazing includes a fluid in circulation and in contact with a heat exchanger. These glazings allow to control the thermal load at the same time as they can be converted into radiant surfaces to cool or heat. Examples of these embodiments are patent documents: EP0075464, US4515150, DE19926343, DE4107943, ES2180444. Finally, another group of glazing resolves the control of the lighting by including an electrochromic sheet adhered to the transparent sheets. Examples of these embodiments are patent documents: DE10023765, US2005200935, WO2005076061, US2005117193.
- the present invention focuses on reducing the hydrostatic pressure that the transparent sheets withstand as a result of the liquid in the closed circuit.
- the reduction of the hydrostatic pressure and, consequently, of the thicknesses of the transparent sheets allows to obtain an economic system of intelligent enclosure with management capacity of light and heat energy.
- the invention described herein has four fundamental advantages over similar inventions described above.
- the first advantage is to allow an important part of the incident radiant energy to be blocked and transmitted to another system, avoiding the thermal increase inside.
- the second advantage is the hydrostatic pressure reducing device, which allows to reduce the thicknesses of the sheets containing the liquid and with it its cost and weight.
- the third advantage is energy, since the energy needs to heat the interior of the building are significantly reduced, saving air conditioning or heating.
- the fourth advantage is the modular design, which allows independent construction and easy system maintenance. The breakage of a module will not cause the complete system to fail, and this failure can be repaired independently without affecting the operation of the rest of the structure.
- Transparent active enclosures with heat and light energy management capacity are characterized by having a fluid that, through convective heat transport, is responsible for managing heat energy, and a dimming system which is responsible for controlling the lighting.
- the active nature of the enclosure is associated with its ability to control the incident solar thermal load and lighting through an external regulation system.
- the fluid In order to carry out convective heat transport with a small thickness chamber, the fluid must be a liquid. The hydrostatic pressure that the liquid creates in a vertical enclosure requires that the thicknesses of the transparent sheets be large, whereby the solution is economically unfeasible.
- the present invention seeks to solve the above problems by means of an active transparent enclosure composed of two transparent sheets fixed to a frame through which a liquid in a closed circuit circulates, and a hydrostatic pressure reducing device connected to the closed circuit.
- the frame in addition to being a structural element that allows joining the two transparent sheets, is part of the system's closed circuit.
- the chamber (1) formed by the two transparent sheets is fed by a distributor (5) through inlet holes (6).
- the liquid flows through the outlet holes (7) and is collected by the manifold (8).
- the collector outlet is connected to a circulation pump (3), which drives the liquid towards the heat exchanger (2).
- the heat exchanger outlet is connected directly to the distributor.
- the heat exchanger In summer, the heat exchanger allows to absorb the thermal load absorbed by the liquid as it passes through the chamber. In winter, the heat exchanger gives heat to the liquid and then releases it to the interior space of the building. In this way, the camera behaves like a cold or hot radiant panel inside the building.
- the temperature of the chamber liquid is controlled by the circulation speed governed by the power of the circulation pump, and by the temperature of the heat exchanger connected to a cold or hot focus.
- the frame In order to reduce the hydrostatic pressure in the closed circuit and, consequently, to be able to reduce the thicknesses of the transparent sheets, the frame itself has a hydrostatic pressure reducing device (4) connected to the chamber through a perforation ( 9). In this way, the hydrostatic pressure of the lower point of the chamber is regulated by the height of the liquid column (10). The height of the liquid column is optimized so that the stresses to which the transparent sheets are subjected is minimal.
- the hydrostatic pressure reducing device (4) can be omitted.
- this enclosure can be used to form interior partitions for air conditioning and light control of the interior of the building.
- the color and transparency of the liquid flowing through the closed circuit is controlled.

- an enclosure for exterior façade formation is chosen.
- the system incorporates a double glazing with gas chamber (11) that increases the insulating function and is in contact with the outside. If the system were used to form an interior partition, the inclusion of double glazing with a gas chamber would not be necessary, and the two faces of the water chamber would behave as radiant surfaces inside the building.
- An aluminum frame is constructed from hollow rectangular profiles: the two horizontal sections constitute the distributor (5) and the manifold (8) and one of the vertical sections constitutes the hydrostatic pressure reducing device (4).
- the double glazing is then fixed on one side of the frame and on the other two glass sheets glued together by a polyvinyl butyral (12).
- a color butyral is chosen to control the lighting statically.
- the distributor has practiced on its upper face a series of inlet holes (6) that allow the passage of water to the chamber (1) formed by the glass sheets and the frame.
- the collector has on its lower face a series of outlet holes (7) that allow the collection of water for later return.
- the hydrostatic pressure reducing device only communicates with the closed circuit through a perforation (9) located in the lower part of the chamber, and the liquid inside does not circulate.
- the water collected by the collector is carried to a circulation pump (3), which drives the water through a heat exchanger (2). Finally, the heat exchanger outlet is connected to the distributor.
- the system thus described forms a closed circuit.
- the system is filled through the filling valve (13).
- the trap io (14) allows the exit of the air that is evacuated by filling the system.
- the spillway (15) remains closed. Due to the hydrostatic pressure that originates in the chamber, whose vertical distribution is shown in Figure 3, the glass sheets bulge outwards. Thus, the volume of water that is introduced is greater than what would correspond if the sheets remained flat.
- the infrared component of the incident solar radiation is absorbed by water that is impermeable to infrared.
- the energy associated with the visible spectrum is absorbed in part by the butyral color sheet.
- the forced circulation of water transports the absorbed heat to the heat exchanger.
- the heat exchanger is responsible for cooling the water before returning to the chamber.
- a water flow in the chamber between 0.05-0.1 kg / (sm 2 ) is sufficient to transport all the heat absorbed by the water and ensure variations of the water temperature in the camera less than two degrees Celsius. In this way, an isothermal water chamber is achieved that blocks the passage of infrared radiation and part of the visible radiation.
- the present invention may be used in the construction sector, for new construction and rehabilitation of any type of building. It will allow all kinds of transparent or translucent enclosures to be made: windows, balconies, greenhouses, skylights, glazed curtain walls, interior partitions, showcases, shop windows and exhibitors, both interior and exterior.
