Abstract

【課題】多光子吸収過程により屈折率が変化する記録層を積層方向に複数有する多層記録媒体において、記録媒体の容量を効果的に高め得るようにする。 【解決手段】光ディスク10中に、サーボ層13、6つのスペース層14および5つの記録層15からなる組が4段配されている。各サーボ層13には、クロックを生成するための構造、チルトを検出するための構造、アドレスを取得するための構造およびサーボ層を識別するための構造が形成されている。サーボ層と、これと組になる記録層が積層方向に大きく離間しないため、各記録層に対するサーボ信号、クロック信号、チルト検出信号およびアドレス信号の信頼性を高く維持できる。また、サーボ層を識別するための構造から当該記録層がどのサーボ層に組み合わされたものかを識別できる。
