Abstract

 Xカットの第1の基板(31)に光導波路(33,33a,33b)とともに制御電極(35a,35b,35c)を形成し、Zカットの第2の基板(40)に光導波路(34,34a,34b)とともに制御電極(41a,41b,42a,42b)を形成し、第1・第2の基板の光導波路を光の伝搬方向に縦続接続する。これにより、第1の基板(31)の光導波路(33,33a,33b)でのTE成分に対する高い電気光学効果と第2の基板(40)の光導波路(34,34a,34b)でのTM成分に対する高い電気光学効果との合成によって、TE成分、TM成分の両方に対して効率よく制御できるようになり、低電圧動作可能な偏波無依存性の光制御素子が得られる。
