Abstract
Use of a combination of Aloe Vera and Spermine for the manufacture of a remedy for topic application on the skin for treatment of different skin conditions as wrinkles, stressed skin, ageing skin and eczema and psoriasis.
Description
Skin cream comprising a combination of Aloe Vera and spermine .
The present invention relates to an agent for topical application onto the skin. More specifically the invention concerns a skin cream with particular beneficial properties. The skin cream according to the invention comprises a combination of Aloe Vera and spermine as important constituents.
Aloe Vera is a widely used product within the field of cosmetics and skin care, especially for application and treatment of the human skin. The plant from which the Aloe Vera is extracted, has from ancient time been known as a cosmetic preparation and medicinal plant with alleviating properties.
Spermine is naturally occurring in all the cells of the body, but the amount is varying strongly between different types of cells. One of the most important properties of spermine is its powerful antioxidant effect.
A number of patents describing various utilizations of polyamines like spermine are known.
Patent CA 2534102 describes the use of spermine and spermidine as the active ingredients for the preparation of a composition. The composition is applied onto the skin to improve the skin properties like softness, elasticity and the removing of wrinkles.
US 2006222620 describes the use of spermidine as an active principle in the preparation of a composition to combat hair loss.
WO 2006048671 concerns topical cosmetic compositions comprising polyamines like spermidine and spermine. The compositions are applied onto the skin and improve the elasticity, the colour and plasticity of the skin
In addition there exists a long list of patents using different polyamines like spermidine and spermine in cosmetic compositions, for the treatment of various skin conditions.
None of the above referenced patents describe the use of a combination of Aloe Vera and spermine.
The skin The skin is often regarded as one of the most important organs in the human body, most of it between 2-3 mm in thickness. For an adult human being the skin has a total surface area of between 1,5 - 2 m2, accounting for about 15 % of body weight. The skin is a complex organ comprising many different constituents and cells with various and important functions.
The average cm of skin holds among others 300 sweat glands, 10 blood vessels and 60 000 melanocytes, and more than a thousand nerve endings. The skin is rich in lipids, DNA and protein.
It is customary to classify the skin into three primary layers, namely the outermost epidermis, then the dermis, and innermost is called the hypodermis. The skin has many important functions, and the most important is to protect the the body against infections from the surrounding environment of pathogens and infections. The skin is also protecting the underlying cells and tissue, muscles and internal organs.
The skin also provides insulation and temperature regulation, body sensation and synthesis of vitamins as B and D. Furthermore the skin contains pigmentation and melanocytes that absorb the potentially dangerous ultra violet radiation in sunlight. The skin contains enzymes which help, repair and reverse injuries caused on the skin from ultra violet radiation, injuries that if not repaired in time may develop to skin cancer.
Injured skin will try to recover by the formation of scars, and the injury may give rise to visible scars with discoloring of the skin area.
Aloe Vera
Aloe Vera is a succulent plant naturally growing in dry tropical fields in the world. It is also used as an ornamental potted plant, but is well known as a source for the sap to be used within medicinal areas, cosmetics and especially as an important constituent in
creams. Aloe Vera is rich in vitamins and minerals, and is used as a main ingredient in skin creams for daily care, and in creams for the treatment of burns, sunburns, eczema, skin wounds and other skin conditions.
It is well known that Aloe Vera can alleviate and reduce infections and inflammation, and has beneficial properties on eczema, dry, chapped and tired skin. Aloe Vera is therefore used in a wide range of cosmetic products like body lotion, cleansing cream, soap, sun cream, shampoo and ointment. It has also been used in the treatment of fungal infections.
Many of the beneficial properties of Aloe Vera are due to that it inter alia contains mucopolysaccharides.
Spermin Spermine belongs to the group of polyamines and is naturally found as growth factors and regulation in eukaryotic cells in many organisms. Polyamines are organic compounds with two or more primary amino groups, and examples are putrescine, cadaverine, spermidine and spermine.
Spermine is transformed from the related compound spermidin in the cells. Spermine holds antioxidative properties and has shown good results concerning the decreasing of wrinkles in the skin, improvement of the elasticity of the skin, pigmentation, skin colour and softness.
The present invention combines the good properties of Aloe Vera and spermine. By combining the strong antioxidative properties of spermine, with the well known nutrition rich Aloe Vera in a skin cream, the oxidation of Aloe Vera will be stopped. With a skin cream for topical application according to the invention, one will also attain an enhanced transport and penetration into the skin, together with an improved impact of spermine. The skin cream according to the invention can ble applied not only onto the face and hands, but on the entire body. The skin cream according to the invention
will minimize wrinkles in the skin, enhance the elasticity of the skin, colour and appearance, confine ageing tendencies and improved humidity, together with renewal of cells.
The cream according to the invention can be used as an everyday skin cream (day or night), for general supply of nutritive substances to tired, stressed, contaminated and ageing skin.
The cream can be used in connection with sunbathing, prior to and after sunburns, bathing in sea water and fresh water. It can also be applied onto dry and chapped skin, or more severe skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis, or skin lesions.
Aloe Vera and spermine are supplied as standard products. The producers and suppliers have approved GMP standard (Good Manufacturing Procedures), which secures good quality control of the production process.
Aloe Vera and spermine are mixed in suitable mixing devices until one obtains a homogenous mixture. A suitable dosage for a skin cream is 0,02 g spermine for 50 ml Aloe Vera, but the mixing ratio may vary within a broader concentration range.
In addition the mixture may potentially be supplied with additives common within this field. Examples of additives are preservatives, exipients, natural colours, vitamins B and D. It is, however, preferred to use as few additives as possible, to limit the possible sensitive reactions in the skin of the user. It is also possible to add the mixture jojoba oil and tocoferol.
In alternative embodiments of the invention, a combination of Aloe Vera and spermine may be formulated as tablets, pills or as a squash or juice for oral ingestion.
