Abstract

A composite armor panel (60) and method of manufacturing the same are disclosed. In one embodiment, a plurality of ceramic spheres (104) are positioned in contact with an armor substrate (62). A polyurea layer (64) is interposed between the plurality of ceramic spheres (104) such that the polyurea layer (64) partially encapsulates the plurality of ceramic spheres ( 104) and bonds the plurality of ceramic spheres (104) to the armor substrate (62). The plurality of ceramic spheres (104) are partially exposed and oriented in a direction of anticipated impact.
