Abstract
The invention relates to a device for the electrospray ionisation of a liquid sample, comprising a capillary-type supply channel containing an electrode for the liquid sample and a plate provided with at least one passage for the ion stream that is formed, said plate being located at a distance from the free end of the supply channel, thus forming an ion formation clearance. According to the invention, a high potential differential is applied between the electrode of the supply channel and the plate. The aim of the invention is to develop a device of this type to increase its life cycle and to permit the application of higher potential differentials without producing corona discharges. To achieve this, a separation layer (8, 9), consisting of a dielectric material and preventing direct contact between the liquid sample and the electrode (3), is situated between the electrode (3) and the supply channel (1). The electrode (3) is located at a distance from the free end (1a) of the supply channel (1).
