  • it relates to a device that can emit fragrance in such a way that it is distributed throughout a room.
  • air fresheners Many products and systems have been developed for dispersing a fragrant compound in a living space; generally referred to as "air fresheners". Aerosol sprays can disperse a fragrant composition when required. However, their effect is short-lasting and the intensity of fragrance is very variable. Therefore, an alternative type of air freshener has a volatile fragrance compound dispersed in a body such as a gel or wax from which is can evaporate. This provides a much more constant way to disperse a fragrant composition. However, the concentration of the volatised composition tends to diminish rapidly with distance from the air freshener. In an aim to overcome this, so-called “plug-in" air fresheners were proposed. These incorporate an electrical heating element to and a reservoir for a liquid fragrance composition. The heating element causes volatisation of the fragrance composition. However, these devices occupy an electrical socket outlet, which can be inconvenient, and there have instances of such devices catching fire.
  • An aim of this invention is to provide a fragrance emitting device that allows a fragrance compound to be dispersed in a space in a manner that is more constant over time and throughout the volume of a room than is the case with aerosol or gel-type air freshener without the disadvantages of the plug-in type.

For use with heating systems that use water to distribute heat, this will not significantly exceed 100 0 C. Resistance to a lower temperature, for example, 85 0 C may be sufficient. Moreover, the volatility of the fragrance is selected to ensure that sufficient composition is volatised, while providing a sufficient life for the product. Volatility can be controlled by selection of a suitable fragrance, selecting a suitable resin within which to incorporate it, selecting the concentration of the fragrance within the resin, and optionally selection of a matrix within which to incorporate the resin.
