Description
Optischer Halbleiter und zugehörige KontaktierungseinrichtungOptical semiconductor and associated contacting device
The present invention relates to an optical semiconductor according to the preamble of claim 1. The invention further relates to an associated contacting device according to the preamble of claim 8.
An optical semiconductor is designed as a radiation source. Such optical semiconductors, commonly referred to as light emitting diode (LED), are increasingly used in lighting technology. Light-emitting diodes are characterized by a long service life, a small design and low power consumption. As a result of significant increases in performance LEDs are now also used as primary light sources for general lighting tasks, such as headlights, especially in vehicles. On the other hand, optical semiconductors are produced as radiation detectors. Such a semiconductor is also referred to in particular as a photodiode.
The term radiation is primarily electromagnetic radiation, in particular in the visible spectral range (visible light) and infrared spectral range (IR radiation).
A disadvantage of the known semiconductors is the connection technology. In conventional semiconductors, a normally metallic contact zone is applied to the active layer surface emitting or detecting the radiation. This contact zone is usually applied centrally on the layer surface and generally spreads in a star shape toward the edges of the layer surface. This arrangement ensures, on the one hand, a uniform propagation of the electric field across the layer surface. On the other hand, the centrally mounted contact field creates a surface for welding the contact surface with a connection contact to be connected to the contact surface. In this connection, one also speaks of the bonding of the connection contacts to the contact surface. As a result of this bonding, an optical semiconductor usually has a so-called "bonding spot" centrally on its active layer surface. This bond spot prevents leakage from the center of the optical semiconductor emitted radiation. This radiation must either be re-focused by optical mirrors or bundles only at a great distance from the contact surface of the semiconductor, which can decrease the efficiency of the optical semiconductor accordingly.
Based on these disadvantages, the invention has for its object to provide an improved connection technology for an optical semiconductor and to design the semiconductor or the associated contacting device in this sense advantageous. This object is achieved with respect to the semiconductor by the feature combination of claim 1, with respect to the contacting device by the combination of features of claim 8. The dependent claims contain expedient and self-inventive developments.
The invention is based on the basic idea of contacting the optical semiconductor with respect to at least one contact surface by frictionally engaging the corresponding connection contact on the contact surface. As a result of the frictional system eliminates the need for the contact surface according to the prior art welding, whereby on the one hand simplifies the Kontaktierungsvor- gang and on the other a thermal load on the contact surface is avoided. The frictional contacting technique also makes it possible to design the connection contact so that the active layer of the semiconductor for radiation emission or detection is largely exposed and a particularly effective heat dissipation, in particular from the immediate vicinity of the active layer. The latter is of great importance, in particular in the case of power light-emitting diodes, especially as the comparatively temperature-sensitive active layer heats up considerably during operation.
Particularly advantageous is the arrangement of a contact field in the edge region of the contact surface of the optical semiconductor. In this way, the center of the active layer surface is free of contact elements, so that undisturbed radiation or radiation detection is possible in this area. In particular, in the case of a semiconductor with angular, eg quadrangular contact surfaces, the arrangement of one or more contact fields in corner regions of the contact surface is Meaning of the largest possible free inner area of the contact surface advantageous. For a good electrical field distribution on the layer surface and an improvement of the heat dissipation is provided as a convenient alternative a ring-like closed around the edge of the contact surface contact field.
The same purpose is served by an optionally provided conductor track structure, which extends from the contact field or the contact fields into the interior of the contact surface. The conductor track structure is designed so filigree that it does not significantly hinder the radiation, but that contributes to a homogenization of the electric field profile, and correspondingly to an improved current distribution. The conductor track structure may be formed finger, net and / or bridge-like. In this case, a conductor track structure with a ring-like contact eye arranged centrally with respect to the contact surface is preferably provided, which is bridged over at least one contact web to the contact field or to a contact field.
Since the optical semiconductor heats up considerably as a result of the radiation emission, it expands accordingly during operation. In order to compensate for this temperature-induced self-expansion of the optical semiconductor, it is advantageous to make the frictional connection of the connection contact resiliently on the contact surface. The resilient connection contact can then compensate the temperature-induced expansion of the optical semiconductor continuously and thus continuously.
In terms of a separation of functions, it is also advantageous to provide an optical semiconductor with two contact surfaces facing away from each other. In this way, it is possible to optimize the one contact surface, which has the active layer surface, with respect to the emission or detection of the radiation, while the other contact surface is directly or indirectly fixed to a spring element, so that the temperature expansion compensation completely from the is realized for the radiation emission or detection actually insignificant, the layer surface facing away contact surface. The spring element can in this way the contact surface facing away from the layer surface. act on surface over a large area, without this being associated with a loss in the emitted radiation emission or detection. As a result, a particularly good elektische and thermal coupling of this contact surface is achieved at the terminal contact. The latter is particularly advantageous for enabling effective cooling of the semiconductor.
An diesem umlaufenden Kontaktrand liegt dann die den Durchlass begrenzende Anschlussfläche des Anschlusskontakts an.Finally, it is advantageous to provide the terminal surface associated with the active layer surface with a central passage as a passage for the emitted or to be detected radiation. In this way, the contact field on the layer surface of the semiconductor in the manner of a ring over the entire edge region of the layer surface overlap. At this peripheral contact edge is then adjacent to the passage limiting surface of the terminal.

To assemble the entire assembly shown in FIG. 1, the centering ring 8 is first placed on the cube-shaped base body 9. In the centering ring 8, the semiconductor 1 is introduced so that it is centered and held securely rests on the base body 9 and at the same time isolated from the base body 9.
Zur Aufnahme des federnden Anschlusskon-taktsIn the direction of the central longitudinal axis 2, the resilient connection contact 10 is introduced from below into the base body 9. The resilient terminal contact 10 has a cylindrical Grυndkörper 11 and a patch on the base body 11 conical tip 12. For receiving the resilient connection contact
2, the resilient terminal contact 10 is in the base body 9, so that the conical tip 12 is pressed non-positively against the contact bearing surface 7, and so contacted the semiconductor 1.
The resilient terminal contact 10 is in turn resiliently mounted with its the cone tip 12 in the direction of the central longitudinal axis 2 remote bottom portion 14 to a leaf spring 15. To complete the connection of the semiconductor 1, in the direction of the central longitudinal axis 2 from above (ie the side facing the active layer surface 3 of the semiconductor 1), the fixed connection contact 17 provided with a centrally exposed passage 16 is pressed against the layer surface 3 of the semiconductor 1. In this way, the layer surface 3 of the semiconductor 1 and a pad 18 of the fixed terminal 17 form a frictional connection. The pad 18 of the fixed terminal 17 is pierced by the passage 16 so as to surround the passage 16 in the manner of a ring. The coronary connection surface 18 rests on the contact field 4 for contacting the semiconductor 1. In the applied state, the radiation emitted by the layer surface 3 can easily radiate outwards through the passage 16 of the fixed connection contact 17, which can be seen in FIG. 2. Optionally, the passage 16 for effective radiation guidance is completely or partially filled by a (not shown) light guide, in particular one or more optical fibers.
Aus der Fig. 2 ist weiter ersichtlich, dass die Kompensation der temperaturbedingten Ausdehnung des HaIb- leiters 1 durch Verfahren des federnden Anschlusskontakts 10 gegen die Blattfeder 15 erfolgt bei gleichzeitig unverändert fester Anlage des festen Anschlusskontakts 17 mit der Anschlussfläche 18 am Kontaktfeld 4 des Halbleiters 1 auf dessen Schichtoberfläche 3.Furthermore, it can be seen from FIG. 2 that, given thermal expansion of the semiconductor 1 in the direction of the central longitudinal axis 2, the resilient connection contact 10 can move away from the semiconductor 1 against the leaf spring 15 so as to compensate for the temperature-induced longitudinal expansion of the semiconductor 1. In this movement of the resilient connection contact 10 against the leaf spring 15 in the direction of the central longitudinal axis 2, the receptacle 13 in the base body 11 forms a web guide for the resilient connection contact 10. From Fig. 2 is further seen that the compensation of the temperature-induced expansion of the HaIb- conductor 1 by moving the resilient connection contact 10 against the leaf spring 15 takes place at the same time fixed attachment of the fixed terminal 17 with the pad 18 on the contact pad 4 of the semiconductor 1 on the layer surface third
Various preferred embodiments of the contact surface forming the active layer surface 3 of the semiconductor 1 are shown schematically in plan view in FIGS. 3 to 5. According to FIG. 3, instead of a contiguous contact field, four individual contact fields 4 are provided, each of which is arranged in a corner region 20 of the quadrangular layer surface 3. The contact fields 4 are in this case dimensioned such that in the final assembly state they are largely withdrawn outside the inner area of the layer surface 3 kept free by the passage 16 (indicated by a dashed line in FIG. 3), so that virtually the entire area of the passage area corresponding to the passage 16 Layer surface 3 is exposed to the emission of radiation.
According to FIG. 4, a single contiguous contact field 4 deviating therefrom is provided which forms a frame closed around the edge of the layer surface 3. In the example illustrated, this frame has a circular inner edge 21 whose diameter corresponds approximately to the diameter of the passage 16, so that in turn approximately the entire region of the layer surface 3 corresponding to the passage 16 is exposed. On the other hand, according to FIG. 4, substantially the entire surface of the layer surface 3 which has been withdrawn in relation to the passage 16 is utilized for the contact field 4, whereby a particularly good electrical and thermal coupling to the fixed connection contact 17 is achieved.
BezugszeichenlisteIn a variant shown in FIG. 5, on the layer surface 3 in addition a filigree, and thus the light emission or detection is not substantially limiting conductor track structure applied. The conductor track structure comprises a thin, circular contact eye 22, which is arranged centrally with respect to the layer surface 3 and is conductively bridged by two spoke-like, thin contact webs 23 with the contact field 4. By the conductor track structure formed from the contact eye 22 and the contact webs 23, an improved electric field distribution, and accordingly an improved current distribution, is achieved on the layer surface 3 during operation of the semiconductor 1.
