Definitions
- Personal device with functions to acquire images, for application of augmented reality resources and method
- the present invention concerns a personal device with functions of acquiring images, for application of augmented reality resources, with a screen for displaying said images, and a method for applying augmented reality resources.
- the technological evolution has led to overcome the already known virtual reality by the innovative augmented reality, which combines the virtual world with the real world, offering the observer virtual information superimposed on real information.
- Augmented reality offers great advantages, such as (unlike what virtual reality did) not to isolate the user from its environment, but to improve or retouch it by adding virtual elements that do not exist in said environment.
- the applications are numerous and focused on many fields. These can be passive, that is to say that they do not require the intervention of the user, such as those limited to show, for example in the field of architecture, three-dimensional images of what a house will be like when it is finished, mixing the current state of the house, still under construction, with the elements, still virtual, that it will appear when it is finished.
- a representative proposal, by way of example, of the commented passive applications of the augmented reality is that contributed by the application US2002 / 0188959, which concerns a system and a method that allows television / video program viewers to automatically receive , or on demand, additional multimedia information synchronized in relation to television / video programs.
- the proposed system comprises a display device to show the enlarged image to the user, a video-based tracking system to locate objects in the real world, a processor to determine the position and orientation of the user's vision based on the location of the objects of the real world and to project the virtual objects in the device displayed and an input device that includes a series of markers located in predetermined positions of the real world, in a scene seen by a user, and that are augmented to simulate physical push buttons .
- These augmented markers can be physically manipulated by the user by placing, for example, their fingers on one of the markers, this action being recognized by the tracking system and properly processed.
- Such input devices can replace more conventional peripherals, such as keyboards or mice.
- Another class of applications take advantage of the existing wireless infrastructures in combination with the augmented reality to enable the enjoyment thereof in mobile devices that incorporate display means.
- a representative example of such applications is that proposed in the patent application US2002 / 0167536, which concerns a system, a method and a portable electronic device comprising a display apparatus to enable seeing augmented reality by superimposing a generated scene by computer to a real scene.
- a display device is capable of adopting two positions, in one of which it is possible to see a real scene with a virtual one superimposed. This is preferably achieved by means of a screen and a semi-transparent mirror pivotable with respect to the screen. Through the mirror (thanks to the semitransparency thereof) a user can see the real world and, depending on the position of the latter, it is possible that the virtual image shown on the screen is reflected in it and therefore overlaps, in the mirror, to the real image.
- the aforementioned pattern to be identified is representative of a graphic element, in general part or all of a view of an entity or object.
- said device depending on the exemplary embodiment, the most basic of which is that said second unit is included in the device itself or forms an assembly with said first unit.
- the second unit is at a remote point
- the device also includes a telecommunication unit capable of communicating at least with said second unit.
- the components that make up said second unit are distributed between a remote point and the device itself, and said device also includes a telecommunication unit for communicating with at least the components located at said point. remote.
- the said telecommunication unit is suitable for transmitting the acquired images to the second unit or to a part thereof, depending on the embodiment.
- the second unit is also suitable to perform said processing of each of the acquired images received and to return to the device at least:
- - a positional reference vector for each pattern identified. And preferably also: - an image with an associated mask for each positional reference vector returned, or:
- the second unit or some of its components are located in the device, these components are suitable for generating said image, or set of images, sized (s) in a timely manner, depending on said positional reference vector or said mask returned to the device.
- at least one of the components of said second unit located in said device has a series of images stored, and these are suitable for generating said image, or set of images, sized (s) in a timely manner by selecting it from among said series of stored images or to manipulate said stored images to generate said image, or set of images, sized (s) in a timely manner.
- the device receives a positional reference vector or a mask of a series of components of the second unit, in relation to an image that has previously been sent from the first unit, another series of components of the second unit Either they select an image that they have stored associated with said vector or mask and they adequately dimension to finally superimpose it on the screen to the acquired image, thus producing the effect of augmented reality, or else they manage to produce said effect by generating a new image. from those that are stored (or another series of stored data that are not images) by, for example, the execution of a certain algorithm, and replacing the image acquired with said new image generated on the screen of the device.
- the proposed device is capable of superimposing said returned or generated image, to one of said acquired images, or to replace it, depending on the example of embodiment, on said screen.
- the aforementioned telecommunication unit is suitable for transmitting said acquired images to said second unit, in color, only in black and white, whole or in part.
- the proposed device can be either a device designed solely for the application of augmented reality resources or to perform other different functions.
- the screen that incorporates it is also suitable for displaying at least information related to personal device applications, and the same may be a touch screen that allows a user to interact and use said devices.
