- Fingernail radiation devices of very different designs are already known. From US-PS-47 31 541 a device is known which has a housing which contains on its underside an insertion opening in which a plate-shaped support body is centrally attached to a telescopic rod. A radiation lamp forming a closed circle is attached in a ring around the telescopic rod.
- the support body which is very flat in the form of a plate, has grooves on its outer edge which serve to position a hand clasping the plate. To irradiate the fingernails, the support body is gripped from below with the hand, so that the fingers with the last links rest on the top of the support body.
- the fingernails are aligned horizontally and point in the direction of the support arm arranged in the center of the plate. Depending on the length of the fingernails, they reach up to the support arm.
- the plate clasped in this way is then moved into an upper position in the housing.
- the radiation emitted by the radiation lamp is reflected by the upper housing area and by an additional reflector on the fingers and the fingernails to be hardened. After the radiation has been completed, the plate can be pulled out of the housing again.

- a fingernail radiation device which has a base plate in which a support body for positioning the fingers of the hand to be irradiated is arranged. The hand encompassing the support body is then pushed into the device and then irradiated by a ring-shaped UV-A radiation lamp.
- tips which are attached to short or broken fingernails or toenails and are provided with UV-A curing compounds. Tips with a length of up to 5 cm are used to attach an artificial fingernail or toenail. The attached tip, which is attached to the top of the natural fingernail or toenail, must then be processed to compensate for the heels.
- a nail gel containing the photopolymerizable compounds is modeled uniformly in one or more layers and cured repeatedly. Only after the tips are glued to the natural nails, are they shortened to the desired length and usually varnished.
- UV-A light which is generated in low-pressure mercury lamps or high-pressure mercury lamps. They have the disadvantage that they are expensive, have an unfavorable size and have a short lifespan.
- the light spectrum emitted by UV-A fluorescent tubes depends on the gases used in the fluorescent tube and therefore cannot be matched to the absorption spectrum of the photoinitiators contained in the photopolymerizable compounds.

- LEDs have a number of outstanding properties which make them ideally suited to replace the UV-A fluorescent tubes and blue-light tubes previously used. Above all, LEDs have a long service life and are small in size. Depending on the doping of the semiconductors, LEDs with different wavelengths are available. Therefore LEDs adapted to the absorption spectrum of the photoinitiator can also be used. This has the advantage of optimizing the ratio of incident light to the degree of polymerization achieved.

- the wavelength range of the high power LEDs is preferably from 395 nm to 405 nm and is therefore skin-friendly.

- Urethane acrylate, tetraethylene glycol dimethylacrylate, 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate, hydroxypropyl methacrylate and bisphenol-A diglycidyl methacrylate and other similar compounds are used as photopolymerizable compounds in nail gels.
- the radiation device according to the invention is advantageously equipped with a control device which controls the light output of the LEDs and can be set to different polymerization times.
- the radiation device according to the invention can have a housing which can consist of plastics or of metal.
- a support surface for a hand or foot 2 located on a base plate 3 is pushed into this housing and thereby brought into a position in which the fingernails or toenails coated with the compound to be hardened are coated from above with the blue light emitted by the light-emitting diodes 7. or UV-A light.
- the protective hood 4 covering the fingernails or toenails can be fixed or hinged.
- a radiation device according to the invention is particularly advantageous, in which a light switch is automatically actuated when the support surface for the hand 2 is pushed in and the light emission is thus initiated by the LEDs.
