Abstract

A cooling assembly for light concentrator photovoltaic systems is described having one or an array of photovoltaic devices (PV cells or PV modules), wherein the cooling assembly is provided to be attached to a heat transfer surface of a PV device (1) or to the heat transfer surfaces of a plurality of neighboring PV devices (1). The cooling assembly comprises a heat pipe (8). Said heat pipe (8) comprises: an expanded foot portion (9) attached to said heat transfer surface of said PV device (1) to be cooled, a head portion (12), hollow on the inside, whose inside is in direct communication with the inside of said foot (9) and has a smaller cross-sectional size than said foot portion (9), so that a working fluid (10) inside said heat pipe (8) is kept in said foot portion (9) even in operating positions where said heat pipe (8) is maximally tilted from a vertical position in which said foot portion (9) is positioned in a position below said head portion (12), and a cladding (11) of open porous wick material covering at least those surface areas inside said foot portion (9) which can be contacted by said working fluid (10) during normal operation.
