The invention relates to a composite armor-plating, particularly for installing in motor vehicles. The armor-plating consists of individual plates provided with an outer layer (1) made of a protective material having a high level of hardness and with an inner layer (2) made of a fiber material having a low level of hardness. Each plate comprises, along at least one of its outer edges, a steel edge reinforcement (3) of a predetermined thickness. This edge reinforcement covers at least the lateral edge of the outer layer (1) and is joined to the plate in a fixed manner. The edge reinforcement (3) can be provided in the form of an angle strip whose first limb (3.1) extends perpendicular to the plate surface while covering the lateral edge of the outer layer (1), whereas the second limb (3.2) extends parallel to the plate surface, and the outer layer (1), with a predetermined length, is integrated underneath in the inner layer (2).

Description

Nerbundpanzerung, insbesondere zum Einbau in Kraftfahrzeuge Nerbund armor, especially for installation in motor vehicles
The invention relates to a Nerbund armor, in particular for installation in motor vehicles, consisting of individual plates with an outer layer made of a protective material of high hardness and an inner layer made of a fiber material of lower hardness. Such plates are known per se, the protective material forming the outer layer being high hardness, for example a ceramic material, while the fiber material forming the inner layer having lower hardness can be a glass fiber composite, for example.
A problematic area of such armored armor plates is the area of the outer edges, in which the individual plates may be attached to one another. This area forms a weak point of armor, especially for projectiles that hit this area at an angle. It is there is then the risk that the plate breaks off in the edge region and the projectile or parts of the projectile pass the outer edge of the plate or pass between two plates into the interior of the vehicle. This is particularly critical when the outer edges of the panel or panels are flush with the edge between the vehicle door and the body.
The invention has for its object to develop a Nerbund armor with the features specified at the beginning and in the preamble of claim 1 such that each individual plate also ensures adequate protection even in the region of its outer edge or outer edges against obliquely hitting projectiles.
This object is achieved according to the invention with the features from the characterizing part of patent claim 1. Advantageous developments of the composite armor according to the invention are described in the dependent claims.
The basic idea of the invention is to provide each plate of the composite armor along at least one of its outer edges with an additional edge reinforcement covering the outer layer on the side edge, which consists of a steel with good strength properties and the area of the outer edge of the plate before breaking out or splintering protects. It has proven to be particularly advantageous if this edge reinforcement has an angle profile strip, the first leg of which is guided along the side edge of the outer layer perpendicular to the plate surface, while the second leg runs parallel to the plate surface and is integrated into the plate. Furthermore, it is advantageous if the first leg of the angle profile strip, which is guided along the outer layer, has the outer surface of the The outer layer protrudes a predetermined length. The connection between the edge reinforcement and the layers of the plate can be effected by means of an adhesive.
An exemplary embodiment of a composite armor according to the invention is explained in more detail below with reference to the accompanying drawing.
The drawing shows part of a plate of composite armor in the area of an outer edge. The plate has an outer layer 1, for example made of a ceramic material, which is connected by an adhesive layer 4.1 to an inner layer 2, for example made of a glass fiber composite. In the area of the outer edge of the plate, an edge reinforcement is arranged, which has an angle profile strip 3 made of steel with good strength properties. This angle profile strip 3 is arranged on the outer edge so that its first leg 3.1 runs perpendicular to the plate surface, covers the side edge of the outer layer 1 and projects beyond the surface of the outer layer by a predetermined length. The second leg 3.2 of the angle profile strip 3 runs parallel to the surface of the plate and is integrated in the plate, specifically in the inner layer 2 in such a way that one side facing the outer layer is flush with the interface between the outer layer 1 and the inner layer 2. The second leg 3.2 frames the outer layer 1 over a predetermined length. The connection between the second leg 3.2 of the angle profile strip 3 and the inner layer 2 takes place via an adhesive 4 and its connection to the outer layer 1 via an adhesive 4.2.
In the drawing, it is indicated that storeys 5.1, which strike in the area of the outer edge, and storeys 5.2, which fall obliquely to the surface of the board in the direction of the outer edge, the board in the area of the outer edge can not bring to break or chipping, because this is protected by the edge reinforcement, ie the angle profile strip 3.
