Description

STRUCTURE TO ENLARGE TRUNK FLOOR OF CARS
The subject matter of the utility model is a structure to enlarge trunk floors
of motor vehicles.
The utility model relates to a structure, which provides motor vehicles,
preferably cars with an enlarged room for transport of goods.
There are known structures for cars to enlarge space for transporting goods,
such as roof rack or trailer coupled to the car.
The description of the Hungarian utility model registered under No. 208
describes an additional unit to motor vehicles preferably for storing and
sleeping in.
The disadvantage of the described structure is that a separate unit should be
coupled to the car.
The Hungarian patent description under No. 1697 relates to a storage
system installed in the internal space of trunk floor.
The disadvantage of the described structure is that it does not serve to
enlarge the internal space, it provides only a more economic usage of it.
We aimed to develop a structure to provide an enlargement of trunk floor in
the way that a trailer becomes unnecessary even if large sized goods should
be transported.
It is fulfilled that a special lift gate is used, preferably for cars with vertical
lift gate, station wagons, small vans and box vans. The upper window frame and the lower part of said lift gate can be separated using a pair of special
bolt locks and trunk floor enlarging walls are fastened to the lower part of
lift gate.
Thus, the subject matter of the utility model is an enlargement of trunk
floors of cars, preferably ones with vertical lift gate, where the glass sheet
can be removed from the upper window frame.
The characteristic features of the structure are as follows:
The lift gate of said vehicle consists of an upper window frame and a lower
door, the glass sheet of said window could be lowered into the door. A pair
of bolt locks having rectangular cross section can separate the window
frame and the door. The pair of bolt locks is mounted in the jambs of the
upper window, while the lower edge of the lower door is provided with a
pair of bolt locks having round cross section. The lower door is coupled
with hinges to the car body, and rear wall and side plates are fastened to the
lower door. Both side plates and the rear wall can be opened using hinges
and they are fastened with releasable snap-bolts. Windshield wiper and rear
light fittings are mounted into upper window frame.
The bolt locks of rectangular cross-section are mounted under an angle to
each other, and the rear wall is provided with an additional licence plate.
The advantage of the structure according to utility model is that it can be
manufactured more simply and economically than the known solutions. It
has a special advantage that the extension of trunk floor should be used only for special tasks, and the original status can be restored immediately after
the task has been completed. Thus, the structure according to the utility
model can be easily mobilised. When used, no additional cargo transporting
units are required.
The structure according to utility model is disclosed with help of Figures 1 to 4.
The Figure 1 shows the rear view of the car with closed lift gate.
The Figure 2 shows the longitudinal section of the car with opened lift gate.
The Figure 3 shows the rear view of car with opened trunk floor extension.
The Figure 4 shows the longitudinal section of the car with opened trunk
floor extension.
The Figure 1 shows the lift gate 1 of the car, which consists of a 2 upper
window frame, the rear window 3 therein, which can be lowered and the
lower door 4, which can be separated from the upper window frame 2.
The rear window 3 can be lowered into the lower door 4, e. g. by an electric
motor.
The pair of bolt locks of rectangular cross-section 7a is mounted in the
jambs of the upper window. The axes of the said bolt locks enclose an angle
that secures the upper window frame 2 to the lower door 4 when the bolt
locks are closed.
The pair of bolt locks of round cross-section 7b is in the horizontal lower
edge of the lower door 4. While the bolt locks of rectangular cross-section 7a serve to fasten the
upper window frame 2 and the lower door 4 together, the lock bolts of
round cross-section 7b serve as hinge to turn lower door 4 down.
The windshield wiper 9 and rear light fitting 10 are mounted into the upper
window frame 2. The rear light fitting 10 may include the rear lights, brake
lights and reversing lights.
According to utility model the lower door 4 can be made preferably of a
glass fibre or other fibre reinforced plastic mounted onto steel frame.
The pair of bolt locks of rectangular cross-section 7a is preferably built in
hidden in the upper window frame 2 the pair of bolt locks of round cross-
section 7b is preferably built in hidden in the lower door 4.
The Figure 2 shows the car body 11 to that the lift gate 1 is coupled with
hinges 8.
The lift gate 1 is opened in said Figure.
The rear wall 5 and the side plates 6 are fastened to the lower door 4 with a
releasable snap-bolt 7c.
The bolt locks of round cross-section 7b are mounted in the lower edge of
the lower door 4.
The Figure 3 shows the rear view of the car with opened trunk floor
extension.
The Figure shows the upper window frame 2 with the windshield wiper 9
and light fittings 10, and the bolt locks of rectangular cross-section 7a. The bolt locks of round cross-section 7b is in the lower edge of the lower
door 4 separated from the upper window frame 2.
The Figure shows the opened rear wall 5, and the side plates 6, as well.
Before the opening of the trunk floor extension the glass sheet of the rear
window 3 should be lowered into the door 4.
The lower door 4 is then turned backwards to extend the trunk floor in this
way. The releasable snap-bolt 7c is released and opening the rear wall 5 and
side plates 4 extend the trunk floor.
The additional licence plate 12 is fastened onto rear wall 5, and also
additional brake lights may be mounted if required.
The Figure 4 shows the longitudinal section of the car with open extension
of trunk floor. The Figure shows that the upper window frame 2 is coupled
to car body 11 with hinges 8.
The lower door 4 is separated from the upper window frame 2 and turned
down to the horizontal position.
The lower door 4 with the open rear wall 5 and side plates constitute the
extension of trunk floor.
The pair of bolt-locks of rectangular cross-section situated in the upper
window frame 2 is then in open state, while the pair of lock-bolts 7b
situated in the lower door 4 is in closed state.
When the extension of trunk floor is open, the releasable snap bolt is, of
course, open. The extension of trunk floor according to utility model is open that the rear
window 3 in the upper window frame 2 is lowered into lower door 4,
preferably with an electric device. Then the pair of lock-bolts of round cross
-section 7b is closed. The lower door 4 is fastened in this way.
The pair of lock bolts of rectangular cross-section 7a is opened, the upper
door frame 2 and the lower door 4 are untied in this way.
The lower door 4 is turned down to horizontal position around the pair of
lock bolts 7b as hinges.
The releasable snap bolt 7c is released, the rear wall 5 and the side plates 4
are opened and the trunk floor extension is ready.
The advantages of the structure according to utility model are as follows:
It is not necessary to use an additional luggage rack or a trailer to transport
large sized goods.
The extension can be used either for personal or for commercial transport
purposes.
The structure is simple and economic.
All cars of known types can be easily adapted to the structure according to
utility model. The extension of trunk floor can be provided with canvas or
any hard roof.
The structure has a special advantage that the extension of trunk floor
should be opened only for transport tasks and the original state of the
vehicle can be restored after completion of the task. LIST OF NOTATIONS
