Description

"Automatic emergency indicator for vehicles'
Field of the invention The present invention refers to the safety systems in general: in particular, it concerns an automatic emergency indicator for all types of vehicles.
The basic and main idea of the present invention is to make available, in case of necessity, a visible indicator that aims to signal an emergency condition of the vehicle on which the indicator is being installed. Summary of the invention
More particularly, the purpose of the present invention is to provide an emergency indicator that is able to activate itself automatically, without any voluntary operation of the vehicle occupants, in case of black-out of the electric installation that gives energy to the lights and emergency lamps of the same vehicle . According to this invention, this object is reached thanks to an automatic emergency indicator essentially characterized by the fact that it comprises at least one auxiliary lamp applicable in a protected and visible position on the outside of the vehicle, an electric auxiliary source, independent and autonomous from the electric source connected to the electric installation of the vehicle, and control means to activate automatically said auxiliary lamp through said auxiliary source in case of black-out of the electric installation.
Thanks to this solution, the invention demonstrates to give a useful contribute to the road- safety, because it allows to reduce, in a drastic way, the risks of car accidents in scarce visibility conditions (in the dark or fog) . For instance: if the moving vehicle bumps into an obstacle it can damage its side-lights and, as consequence, it can occur a short circuit of the electric installation that involves also the tail-lights (lamps, stop lights, indicator lights) . This situation can originate a possibility of danger also for the vehicles which follow the not- illuminated one. On the contrary, if this vehicle is equipped of the automatic emergency indicator according to the invention, the automatic activation of the auxiliary lamp allows to reduce, or even to eliminate, the above risk. Similar situations can occur, for example, in case of collisions, or when the vehicle gets out of the street in a scarcely illuminated area, gradients, or stop along hard shoulders.
Brief description of the drawings The invention will now be described in detail , with reference to the enclosed drawing that shows in a diagrammatised form a possible embodiment of the automatic emergency indicator according to the invention . Detailed description of the invention
In the drawing, the block indicated by the number 1, generically represents the electric installation of a vehicle that is supplied by a battery 2 and by a generator (or dynamo) 3 connected to the battery in a conventional way, through an insulator group 4.
The number 5 indicates an auxiliary lamp conveniently consisting of a stroboscopic intermittence of xenon or the like applied on the vehicle in a protected position, highly visible from the outside of the car. For instance, the auxiliary lamp 5 can be associated to a third central stop-light, usually collocated inside the driver's cabin near to the superior central area of the back-window.
The auxiliary light 5 is connected to an auxiliary electric source independent and autonomous from the battery 2 of the electric installation 1. This auxiliary electric source is normally constituted by a buffer battery 6, that can be kept in charge by the same generator 3, if necessary.
Between the auxiliary lamp 5 and the battery 6 there is a normally open switch device or interrupter 7. The closing of the interrupter 7 is operated in an automatic way, through a treshold detecting device 8 connected to the electric installation 1 and adapted to detect a fall of tension beyond a predetermined value. If this happens, indicating a black-out of the electric installation 1 in general or of only the battery 2, the detecting device 8 operates automatically closing of the interrupter 7, and so the supplying of the auxiliary lamp 5 from the battery 6.
In addition to the system foregoing described, the automatic activation of the auxiliary lamp 5 can occur through the automatic piloting of the interrupter 7 by a crash tracer device 9. This device, for instance, composed by a deceleration sensor, may be of the same type described and illustrated in French patent application FR-A-2707937.
According to another alternative, the interrupter 7 can be provided with a a manually operated control 10 through which the auxiliary lamp 5 can be activated voluntarily by the vehicle occupants in case of need.
Obviously, the features and the forms of realization of the emergency indicator according to the invention can be changed widely with respect to what has been disclosed and illustrated, without thereby departing from the scope of the appended claims. Thus, for instance, the indicator can have two or more auxiliary lamps, and it can also be equipped of an electric horn, if necessary.
Moreover, the indicator can be connected to a system of location through satellite such as G.P.S. and similar installed on the vehicle, and has the possibility to activate automatically, in addition to the lamp 5, messages for help to breakdown services (VIA-SAT) or specialized center for assistance. In this case, according to the invention, the indicator can be incorporated to the origin, i.e. by the car maker at the design and engineering stage of the vehicle electric installation, or by suppliers of complete module of mecatronic electronics.
