Description

DISPOSITIF DE MESURE DE LA TEMPERATURE D'UN ANIMAL DEVICE FOR MEASURING THE TEMPERATURE OF AN ANIMAL
La présente invention concerne un dispositif de mesure de la température de la queue du corps d'un animal, notamment en vue de la détection de l'instant précédant l'accouchement des femelles bovines ou équines .The present invention relates to a device for measuring the temperature of the tail of the body of an animal, in particular for the detection of the instant before childbirth of bovine or equine females.
It has been established that the internal body temperature of bovine females who are reaching the end of their gestation undergoes modifications which make it possible to determine the imminence of childbirth. Indeed, until approximately 56 hours before calving, the body temperature remains relatively constant with relatively similar daily variations from one day to the next. As the part approaches, the body temperature invariably undergoes a significant rise followed more or less suddenly by a significant drop before rising again in the hours before calving, as can be seen in Figure 6. C This is the reason why the interpretation of these fluctuations in body temperature preceding calving may be useful for predicting the time of delivery and being useful in determining the crucial moment from which obstetric assistance could be given. prove essential in order to reduce perinatal mortality of calves.
This physiological feature is taken advantage of by breeders. In fact, to plan for parturition, they raise the rectal temperature of their animals at regular intervals of 12 or 24 hours. Unfortunately, this approach allows them does P have to take full advantage of the opportunity of this natural phenomenon and accurately detect changes in rectal temperature fluctuations. In addition, this method disturbs the animal, which can affect the measured value. On the other hand, it is very demanding for the breeder who must spend a lot of time behind the females to be monitored, in particular keeping the thermometer in place in the rectum for at least thirty seconds.
Similarly, it is known that the body temperature of equine females who reach the end of their gestation undergoes modifications making it possible to determine the imminence of childbirth. Indeed, until about 4 hours before foaling, the body temperature of the mare remains relatively constant with relatively similar daily differences from one day to another. When approaching the part, the body temperature invariably undergoes a significant drop before rising again one hour after foaling, as can be seen in FIG. 7. Examination of the prior art teaches us that inventors have proposed applications making it possible to reduce the time necessary for taking a temperature in animals. Patent DE 3,610,960 describes an animal health monitoring device which eliminates the waiting period necessary for the thermal equilibrium of the temperature sensor before taking the temperature in order to determine whether the animal is sick or not. It has the disadvantage of positioning a skin temperature sensor directly on the coat at the neck, abdomen or tail, which has a coefficient of thermal resistance varying according to the regions of the body and according to the conditions climatic conditions, distorting the absolute temperature differences between each measurement, which makes it impossible to detect parturition.
The present invention where the aim is to measure the temperature of the tail of the body of an animal continuously aims to remedy this drawback by providing a device whose temperature probe is housed and maintained by the internal face of a bracelet in the ventral vertebral furrow of the tail where the skin naturally glabrous, i.e. hairless is thin, and located opposite a segment of the median coccygeal artery and vein. The positioning of the temperature sensor in the ventral vertebral furrow and more particularly at the level of the first four coccygeal vertebrae of the tail of the animal makes it possible to raise the body temperature of the bovine or equine animal permanently without this reading temperature is influenced by climatic conditions; Thus, the device of the present invention makes it possible, in particular, to detect a significant variation in temperature which occurs before the birth of bovine and equine females. To this end, this device for measuring the temperature of the tail, of the body of an animal, in particular for the detection of the instant preceding the birth of bovine females, comprises a strap intended to be tightened around the base. of the tail of the body whose temperature is to be measured, this bracelet carrying the components of a veterinary medical thermometer, namely a case, containing electronic circuits and a display and / or a communication module, a temperature probe and a connecting conductive cord connecting the temperature probe to the housing of the thermometer, remarkable in that the temperature probe is housed and kept in contact by the internal face of the bracelet in the ventral vertebral groove of the tail. Various embodiments of the present invention will be described below, by way of non-limiting examples, with reference to the appended drawings in which: FIG. 1 is a diagrammatic elevation view of a device for measuring the following temperature the invention, applied around the base of the tail of an animal.
- la figure 2 est une vue en coupe faite suivant la ligne II-II de la figure 1, la figure 3 est une vue en perspective d'un dispositif de mesure de la température de type fermé, c'est-à-dire en forme d'anneau,FIG. 2 is a sectional view taken along line II-II of FIG. 1, FIG. 3 is a perspective view of a device for measuring the temperature of the closed type, that is to say in the form of a ring,
- la figure 4 est une vue en plan d'un dispositif de mesure de la température de type ouvert, c'est-à- dire s'étendant à plat. la figure 5 est une vue en perspective d'une sonde de température.- Figure 4 is a plan view of an open type temperature measuring device, that is to say extending flat. Figure 5 is a perspective view of a temperature probe.
Les écarts de température sont déterminés en soustrayant, pour chaque heure de la journée, la moyenne horaire du jour de la moyenne des moyennes horaires homologues des trois jours précédents réalisées pour chaque heure de chacune de ces journées.- Figure 8 is a graph of the evolution of the differences in body temperature of a pubescent bovine female when approaching ovulation, presenting a peak characteristic of the temperature differences preceding the moment of ovulation as well as the small gap separating it from the hormonal peaks of LH (lutein hormone) and 17 beta-oes tradiol. The temperature differences are determined by subtracting, for each hour of the day, the hourly average of the day from the average of the homologous hourly averages of the three preceding days carried out for each hour of each of these days.
In FIGS. 1 and 2 is shown a temperature measurement device 1 according to the invention, applied around the tail 2 of a female animal at the end of gestation, in order to enable the imminent birth to be detected with precision. . However, such an application is not limiting and the measuring device 1 could be used, for example to ensure clinical monitoring of the temperature of the animals, in particular with a view to detecting the time of the onset of heat in pubescent females as can be seen in FIG. 8 or to reveal certain diseases leading to a significant increase or decrease in body temperature.
The measuring device 1 essentially comprises a bracelet 3 tightened around the tail 2, a short distance from the base of the attachment of the tail to the sacrum, and which carries a medical thermometer for veterinary use. This thermometer comprises a housing 4 fixed to the outside of the bracelet 3, a temperature probe 5 disposed inside the bracelet 3 and applied by the latter against the tail 2, and a flexible and waterproof conductive cord 6 connecting the probe 5 to the housing 4. In FIGS. 1 and 2 the temperature probe 5 is shown housed and kept in contact, by the lower part of the bracelet 3, with the naturally fine and hairless skin of the ventral vertebral groove of the tail 2, while the thermometer box 4 is located on the upper part of the bracelet 1 and of the tail 2, thus being easily accessible. Therefore, the probe 5 and the housing 4 are in substantially opposite positions. Bracelet 3 can be of the closed type, consisting of a ring of a single elastic band or of a non-elastic band with an elastic part, or alternatively it can be of the open type, being formed of a completely non-elastic, provided at its two ends with a progressive closing and tightening device.
In the nonlimiting embodiment shown in FIG. 3, the bracelet 3 of the closed type, comprises a band 3a_ of non-elastic textile material, the two ends of which are connected to each other by an elastic band 3b_ forming by example a bellows, which makes it possible to adjust the bracelet 3 to the required dimensions. In this embodiment, a strap 7 carrying, on its part extreme, a strip of a self-gripping material known as “VELCRO” 7a is sewn onto an extreme part of the strip 3a_ of the strap 3. The self-gripping strip 7a of the strap 7 is intended to cooperate with a complementary self-gripping strip 3c_ of the "VELCRO" type which is sewn on the other extreme part of the non-elastic strip 3a_. The strap 7 spans the bellows 3b_ to consolidate the entire bracelet 3 in its useful diameter.
In the variant shown in FIG. 4, the band 3a_ of the bracelet 3, of the open type, is entirely made of elastic material of the neoprene type, for example and it is provided, at its two ends with two elements, 3d_, 3e_ for attaching and closing the bracelet 3. These 3d_ elements, 3e_ can be strips of a self-gripping material such as that known under the name of "VELCRO".
The thermometer box 4 is housed in a case 8 which is fixed to the external face of the bracelet 3, preferably opposite to the position occupied by the temperature probe 5. The case 8 provided with an upper window 8a_ has a side opening 8b_ for the introduction of the housing 4 into the case 8, said side opening 8b_ being able to be closed by a folding flap 9 which has in its central part a transparent window 10 and in its end part a hooking element 9a_ cooperating with a complementary hooking element 8c_ of the case 8. The case 8 has, on one of its sides and substantially at mid-width of the bracelet 3, an opening 12 which is located opposite a hole 13 drilled in the strap band 3. The opening 12 and the hole 13 thus allow the flexible conductive cord 6 to extend from the inside of the case 8 to the internal face of the strip 3a_ of the bracelet 3. On this internal face the c conductive ordon 6 is housed inside a textile sheath 14 which is sewn along this face internal, over most of the length of the conductive cord 6. As can best be seen in FIG. 3, the conductive cord 6 comes out of the end of the sheath 14 and is connected to the probe 5 located in the area lower strap 3.
Le raccord du cordon conducteur 6 à la sonde 5 est réalisé à mi-hauteur du bord circulaire de la sonde 5.In the variant shown in FIG. 5, the temperature probe 5, which is substantially hemispherical, is made of stainless, non-allergenic and isothermal material in the thickness of which is contained a sensor 17 sensitive to heat connected by the wires of electrical connection 16 to the end part of the conductive cord 6. The sensor 17 occupies a flush and central position at the convex face 5a of the probe 5. The connection of the conductive cord 6 to the probe 5 is carried out at mid-height the circular edge of the probe 5.
Preferably, the convex face 5a of the temperature probe 5 is pressed against the underside of the tail of the animal by means of an adhesive and isothermal film 15 (FIG. 2) to allow immobilization of the probe 5 in the hollow of the vertebral furrow of the tail.
The thermometer housing 4 includes a traditional electronic circuit, a liquid crystal screen, a compartment for housing a rechargeable battery or battery, an on and off switch and buttons for controlling various functions.
The thermometer can be used like a conventional digital thermometer, that is to say that after having set up the measuring device 1 on the tail of the animal, the breeder starts the thermometer by pressing on the on and off button. The thermometer once the temperature measurement is finished, keep this measurement in memory to display it again the next time the thermometer is started by the breeder. The thermometer can also include additional equipment allowing continuous monitoring of body temperature with permanent display or not of its value in real time. Thus completed, the thermometer can record a temperature value at regular and pre-defined time intervals. The temperature values thus recorded can then be used for two purposes:
1°) pour produire un signal sonore, lumineux ou l'envoi d'un appel ou d'un message à un outil de télécommunication, lorsqu'un seuil de température est franchi à la hausse ou à la baisse ;1 °) to produce an audible, luminous signal or the sending of a call or a message to a telecommunication tool, when a temperature threshold is crossed upward or downward;
2°) pour être transférées, par exemple par commande infrarouge, ondes radio, ou tout autre moyen de transmission sans fil, à un micro-ordinateur distant afin d'être exploitées à diverses fins grâce à l'utilisation de logiciels adaptés.2) to be transferred, for example by infrared control, radio waves, or any other means of wireless transmission, to a remote microcomputer in order to be used for various purposes through the use of suitable software.
It could also be conceived that the user of the temperature measurement device could interrogate the thermometer remotely using a computer in order to collect the recorded information. To this end, a set of transmission relays could be used to allow an exchange of information. The thermometer would then include, in addition to a liquid crystal display, micro-electronic circuits (CMS type), a communication module, and computer software specific to its operation which would be compatible with the main computer operating systems. An illumination of the dial of the liquid crystal display could be automatically turned on for a preset time each time the thermometer is turned on and adjusted. The liquid crystal display must at least display the value of the measured temperature and possibly the time and day corresponding to each recorded measurement.
