Description

THERAPEUTICAL COMPOSITION COMPRISING IODINE TINCTURE, ALCOHOL AND CASTOR OIL
FOR TREATMENT OF PSORIASIS
The object of the present invention is a therapeutical composition for the cure of psoriasis. More in particular, this invention relates to a natural preparation for the skin treatment of patients affected with psoriasis.
Psoriasis is a non-infective cutaneous pathology connected with various factors which determine its onset. It is a persistent pathology which, if not cured, can accompany the patient through his or her whole life. The causes of the onset of said disease are not known yet. However, some psychophysical, environmental and hereditary factors are known, which can remarkably influence its onset, or, after a cure, provoke its return.
Thus, psoriasis is one of the cutaneous diseases most spread in the world, especially in the industrialised countries where stress is surely one of the eliciting factors.
In most part of the cases, the disease symptoms can be reduced or temporarily eliminated. However, a resoiutive medical therapy has not been determined yet. In fact, the available medicines do not assure the recovery; on the contrary, they often cause undesired side effects, like for instance those provoked by the cortisone medicines.
The most used medicines are creams that help removing the squamae, hydrate and soothe the skin, and that are available also under form of shampoos or lotions for treating the blotches on the head.
For the slightest cases, mineral water therapy, controlled exposition to sun's rays, diet control and the use of non-aggressive detergents or moisture creams are sometimes suggested.
For the most serious cases, or if the substances contained in the creams are contraindicated for some persons (children or pregnant women), the so-called ultraviolet therapy, which provides for the exposition to special lamps, UVA or UVB, according to personalised medical therapies, is practised.
Real medicines, given for instance by mouth and acting on the immunitary system, are also available, but it is a matter of cures with remarkable side effects, and are therefore limited to the most serious cases. At present, no treatment of natural type, without contraindications and able to eliminate said disease, or in any case to reduce it definitely, is therefore available.
It is an object of the invention to provide a therapeutical composition for the skin treatment for the cure of psoriasis, of natural type, without contraindications and side effects.
This and other objects are obtained by the therapeutical composition realised according to the invention, as described in a preferred embodiment and claimed in the hereby attached claims. The therapeutical composition realised according to the present invention comprises, as an active principle, the combination of the following components: tincture of iodine, denatured or ethyl alcohol and castor oil. The active principle is mixed with a liquid excipient, for instance distilled water, and if necessary associated with a soothing substance able to reduce the itching and the smarting.
The components constituting the active principle are present in the following proportions: 5-13% by weight of tincture of iodine, 48-60% by weight of ethyl or denatured alcohol, 5-15% by weight of castor oil.
For instance the fluid extract of fresh ivy, in a proportion equal to 8-15% by weight, can be used as a soothing substance.
Distilled water, or whatever other liquid excipient normally used in said type of compositions, is then added in order to reach 100%. Preferably, the alcohol has an alcoholic content equal to 50-55° and can be indifferently ethyl or denatured alcohol.
As an alternative, or in addition to the fluid extract of fresh ivy, it is possible to use, in a total percentage equal to 5-15% by weight, one or more of the following substances: aloe, calendula, echinacea, mimosa tenuiflora, rosa mosqueta, equisetum, mallow, soapwort, helycrisum or camomile.
In fact, all the above mentioned substances have a soothing and relaxing effect on the skin. Besides, the aloe has the advantage of having a cicatrising effect and can therefore favour the recovery from the excoriations provoked by psoriasis itself.
A typical example of therapeutical composition, realised according to the present invention, contains: 10% by weight of tincture of iodine,
50% by weight of alcohol,
10% by weight of fluid extract of fresh ivy,
10% by weight of castor oil, and
20% by weight of distilled water. Other compositions, always in accordance with the present invention, can contain for instance:
10% by weight of tincture of iodine,
50% by weight of alcohol,
15% by weight of extracts of aloe, mallow and camomile; 10% by weight of castor oil, and
15% by weight of distilled water; or:
10% by weight of tincture of iodine,
50% by weight of alcohol, 8% by weight of fluid extract of fresh ivy,
7% by weight of extracts of calendula, equisetum and soapwort,
10% by weight of castor oil, and
15% by weight of distilled water.
The therapeutical composition realised according to the present invention must be regularly applied on the skin, on the parts suffering from psoriasis, for a period of time variable with the cases and the extent of the diseased part.
However, first results are already evident after a few weeks of applications.
