Abstract

Système de distribution de programmes et de messages audio, dans lequel un système hôte organise des segments de programme et les transmet à des sites d'abonnés clients. L'hôte organise les segments de programme par matières et crée une programmation en fonction des préférences associées à chaque abonné. Les segments sont associés à des segments descriptifs des matières, qui peuvent être utilisés pour générer des présentations de catalogage texte ou audio, de façon à permettre à l'utilisateur d'identifier et de sélectionner plus facilement les émissions qui l'intéressent. Une unité de lecture, située chez l'abonné, reproduit les segments de programme reçus de l'hôte et comprend des mécanismes permettant la navigation interactive entre les différents segments. Un journal d'utilisation est compilé de façon à enregistrer l'utilisation que fait l'abonné des matériaux du programme fournis, à renvoyer les données de l'hôte en vue de la facturation, à modifier de manière adaptative les préférences de l'abonné sur la base de son utilisation réelle et à envoyer à l'hôte, en vue de leur traitement, des commentaires et des demandes générés par l'abonné. Les mécanismes d'entrée vocale et de commande incorporés au dispositif de lecture permettent à l'utilisateur de naviguer avec les mains libres dans les matériaux du programme et de dicter des commentaires et des messages, qui sont renvoyés à l'hôte en vue de leur retransmission à d'autres abonnés. Les segments de programme envoyés à chaque abonné peuvent comporter des matériaux publicitaires, que l'utilisateur peut reproduire de manière sélective afin d'obtenir un avoir sur son abonnement. Des fichiers de transcription audio et texte parallèles, correspondant à au moins un programme sélectionné, permettent la recherche de matières et la synchronisation des fichiers audio et texte. La synthèse vocale peut être utilisée pour convertir des fichiers de transcription en format audio. Les fichiers image peuvent également être transmis par le serveur en vue de leur lecture synchronisée avec le programme audio.
