Definitions
- the present invention relates to a sheet joint, intended to hold together parts of a structure, of the kind described in the preamble to claim 1. More particularly, the invention relates to a sheet join for primarily joining together cable distribution cabinets.
- the sheet parts intended for joining are provided with flanges folded-up along the edges.
- the object of the invention is to provide a sheet joint, with the aid of which a sheet structure may be joined together in a simple manner using simple tools.
- the joint is intended to eliminate the need of fixtures during mounting and allow a good accessibility with tools for joining.
- the joint is to be detachable and allow assembly of a large number of structures based on a wide assortment of stocked, less bulky sheet parts.
- a through-hole is provided in one part and a yoke, drawn up from the sheet, is provided in the other part, the yoke being adapted to fit into the hole and penetrate through this .
- That part of the yoke which penetrates through the hole is adapted to receive a wedge which causes a tensile force in the yoke. While at the same time the wedge makes contact with one sheet part, it causes a tensile force in the other sheet part such that both sheets are brought against each other, whereby the wedge locks the joint with prestress.
- the wedge may be optionally replaced by, for example, a screw which may be slightly wedge-shaped. In the oint achieved, the wedge or the screw is oriented in a direction normal to the sheet part. This gives the fitter ample room for tools when locking the joint.
- the yoke is arranged with such fit and such shape that, when the sheet parts are brought together, it finds its way into the hole and hence orients the sheet parts in the position they are to assume when locking the joint.
- One of the sheet parts may then be held against the other by the fitter while at the same time he drives the wedge home, thus eliminating the use of a fixture.
- sheet parts for cable distribution cabinets and other structures may be kept in stock in a large number of variants without occupying a large storage space. Since the individual sheet parts are not bulky, they may undergo, for example, a galvanization or painting process in a simple manner. Nor does the invented joint entail any damage to such galvanization or painting.
- Figure 1 shows a section of a sheet joint according to the invention
- Figure 2 shows a cross section of the joint.
- Figures 1 and 2 show a sheet joint according to the invention.
- a first sheet part 1 comprises a flange 2, folded up at right angles, and a second sheet part 3 comprises a flange 4, also folded up at right angles.
- the flange 2 of the first sheet part makes contact with the flange 4 of the second sheet part, the confronting outer sides of the flanges being in butt contact with each other.
- a through-hole 5 is arranged, through which a yoke 6, comprised in the flange of the second sheet part, penetrates . That part of the yoke which passes through the hole exhibits, between the inside of the yoke itself and the inside of the flange 2 of the first sheet part, an opening through which a screw 7 is inserted.
- the screw 7, which may be equally replaced by a wedge, exerts a tensile force in the yoke 6 for the flange 4 of the second sheet part. Since, at the same time, the screw 7 makes contact, with pressure, with the flange 2 provided with a hole, the forces result in the hollow flange 2 being drawn towards the yoke flange 4.
- the yoke 6 is designed so as to exhibit resilient properties, the joint thus being pre- stressed and allowing a certain movement.
- the hole 5 is punched out of the hollow flange 2 and is rectangular in shape.
- the yoke 6 is arranged by extracting a slitted part of the yoke flange 4 and thus has a rectangular cross section.
- the joint is adapted to function in thin-sheet structures of up to 3 mm.
