Description
A REINFORCED BUMPER PROTECTION BAR FOR
VEHICLE AND A METHOD OF MAKING THE SAME
Field of Invention
This invention relates to a bumper protection bar for vehicle and,
more particularly to a reinforced bumper protection bar having a
hollow body filled with filling materials for improving the ability to
absorb the impact forces when the vehicle is collided.
Background of Invention
A bumper protection bar is, in the view of car styling, intended to
have a sporty and safe outlook.
And also, in the view of safety, intended to absorb the impact
forces.
Thus, the scope of application of the bumper protection bar is
limited by the car design, the functional characteristics of the vehicle
and the purpose of the bar.
Most vehicles except a passenger car are provided with a bumper
protection bar, usually RV car(Recreational Vehicle) including jeep,
pick-up truck, light van and panel van; and specially bonnet-type
truck and cap over-type truck.
The shape of bumper protection bar is determined in accordance
with the style of the car.
The bar itself is a pipe with a hole made of stainless steel and
mounted on the vehicle by bending it.
The position at which the bumper protection bar is mounted is
usually a front or rear portion of the car and in some cases side
portion, too.
The bumper protection bar is mounted on the vehicle by the
fastening means, such as bolts or welding.
The styling effect of the bumper protection bar can be achieved by
just mounting it on the vehicle, but the ability to absorb the impact
force without damage to the vehicle varies according to the strength
of the bumper protection bar.
The impact forces to the vehicle is directly proportionate to the
speed of the vehicle, and experience has shown that in high-speed
condition a conventional bumper protection bar having a hollow pipe
is structurally weak to the impact forces when collided.
This problem is caused by the fact that the protection bar is a
pipe with no filling material in it and also has somewhat thin
thickness.
Summary of invention
Accordingly, the primary object of the present invention is to
provide a reinforced bumper protection bar which can be shaped in
accordance with the car styling and also which has a high strength.
Further object of the present invention is to provide a reinforced
bumper protection bar that has an improved ability to absorb impact
forces with no damages to the vehicles.
To achieve the above object, the reinforced bumper protection bar
according to the invention comprised;
A Hollow body;
A rod positioned in the cavity of the hollow body and adapted to
reinforce the bar ; and
A filling material introduced into the volume between the hollow
body and the rod to lessen the body deformation.
And the method of making the reinforced bumper protection bar
comprises the steps of ;
Inserting the rod into the cavity of the hollow body;
Bending the rod and the hollow body together to the shape in
accordance with the car styling;
Filling the filling material into the volume between the hollow
body and the rod ; and
Solidifying the filling material to secure it to the rod and hollow
body.
Brief Description of the Drawing
Further characteristics and advantages of the invention will
become evident during the detailed description which follows with
reference to the appended drawing, provided by way of non-limiting
example in which :
Fig. 1 is perspective view of the vehicle mounting the bumper
protection bar according to the invention,
Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the bumper protection bar showing a
preferreed embodiment of the invention,
Fig. 3 is a sectional view of the bumper protection bar showing
another embodiment of the invention, and
Fig. 4 is a flow diagram for making the bumper protection bar
according the invention.
Detailed description of invention
Referring now in detail to the drawings.
Fig. 1 illustrates a bumper protection bar(2) mounted on the front
part of the body(l).
Fig.2 shows a bumper protection bar(2)which comprises a hollow
body(3), a rod(4) positioned coaxially at the center of cavity of the
hollow body(3) for improving the strength of the bar(2), and filling
material(5) introduced into the volume between the hollow body(3)
and the rod(4) to position the rod(4) in situ and to reinforce the
strength of the bar(2).
The rod(4) is provided longitudinally with projections(β) on the
outer surface.
And the filling material(5) which position the rod(4) when the
rod(4) is inserted into the hole of the hollow body(3) is the mixture
of sawdust and adhesives.
Adhesives are preferably glue.
Fig.3 shows another embodiment of the invention which differs
only slightly from that illustrated in Fig 2 in that filling material(5)
is the mixture of cement and sands.
Fig. 4 is a flow diagram of the method of making the bumper
protection bar(2) illustrated in Fig. 2.
In the bumper protection bar(2) illustrated in Fig. 2,
the rod(4) is positioned at the center of cavity of the hollow
body (3) by centering and maintains the position by means of filling
material(5). And, thus, improves the strength of the bar(2).
The rod(4) is preferably provided with projections like in Fig. 2(A)
because it is more effective for the rod to maintaine the position by
filling material(5).
Filling material(5) is sawdust.
Because it is light in weight but securely bonded by adhesives,
sawdust, when it fills the volume between the hollow body(3) and the
rod(4), acts effectively as a means to maintain the position of the
rod(4).
And also produces only a slight increase in weight of the bar(2),
which is helpful to the efficiency of the vehicle.
The bumper protection bar(2) in Fig. 3 employ a mixture of
cement and sands as filling material(5).
The mixture of cement and sands is relatively heavy, but improves
the strength of the bar(2) and the ability to absorb the impact force,
which prevents the deformation of the bar(2).
The method of making the above-described bumper protection bar
is as follows.
At first insert the rod(4) or the rod(4) provided with projections(β)
into the hole of the hollow body(3)(S 1). and bend the rod(4) and the
hollow body(3) to the shape in accordance with the car styling(S 2).
After centering the rod (4) in the hole of the hollow body (3), fill
the cavity with a filling material(5)(S 3). in the manner of filling into
the one end after into the other end. And finally solidifying the
filling material to secure it the rod(4) and hollow body (3) (S 4).
The reinforced bumper protection bar according to the invention
improves the strength of the bar without increasing the thickness of
the hollow body by employing a rod and filling material in the hollow
body.
And acts as a guard of car body with sufficient strength.
