"A DEVICE WITH A ROTATING, ANATOMIC HANDLE FOR STEERING WHEELS OF VEHICLES WITH ELECTRONIC ACCELERATOR SYSTEM"
The present invention concerns a device comprising a rotating anatomic handle, with electronic accelerator system, fixed in any point of the circumference or on the spokes of the steering- wheel of vehicles.
At present, some accelerator systems are known that may be controlled by means of a small steering-wheel or similar, placed above the steering-wheel, the perfect operating whereof requests the use of both arms, especially engaging during driving on bordering ways.
The present invention responds to the request of placing the control means for the electronic accelerator in correspondence with the steering- wheel so as to be used, in particular, by drivers with physical handicaps, like those with one arm only, and where this one arm must necessarily operate, at the same time, the steering-wheel and the accelerator.
This need is solved, according to the present invention, by means of a device consisting of a rotating anatomic handle, fixed witha bracket to the circumference of the steering-wheel or on the spokes of the. same, and comprising a potentiometer or other similar device, operated by a switch, a lever or similar and that determines, following to the rotation, the variation of a plurality of grazing contacts so as to transmit the electric signals to an electronic central control for the feeding of a motoreducer which in turn operates, by means of a kinematism, the accelerator pedal of the vehicle.
The present invention will be described more in detail hereinbelow relating to the enclosed drawings in which an embodiment is shown.
Figure 1 shows an exploded axono etric and transparency view of a device with a rotating anatomic handle, with electronic accelerator system, for steering-wheels for vehicles.
Figue 2 shows a device according to figure 1, installed onto the steering-wheel of a vehicle.
Figures 3 and 4 show two variants of the anatomic handle.
The enclosed figures show a device according to the present invention, comprising, relating to the shown details:
- an anatomic handle 1, fixed in any point of the circumference of the steering-wheel V or on one of its spokes R;
- a means for rotatingly linking said handle 1 or similar to the steering-wheel V, consisting of a neutral pin 2 rotating inside a selflubricating bush 3 or a bearing or other, supported by a striction bracket 4 housed on the circle of the steering-wheel V or onto a spoke R; a potentiometer 5 or a plurality of potentiometers or other similar devices, contained inside said handle 1, operated by a pushbutton 6 or similar, so as to control the intensity of the electric currents in the outlet wires 7 placed inside the handle and ending up, outside said rotating handle, with said grazing contacts 8, placed at radial distances differentiated with respect to the rotation axis;
- a plurality of circular concentrical rims 9, fixed onto the brackets 4 and corresponding to
the radial position of said grazing contacts 8, and which transmit the signals of the potentiometer 5 to an electronic control centre 11 for the feeding of a motoreducer 12 which, by means of . a kinematism with flexible transmissions, leverage or other, operates the accelerator pedal of the vehicle.
In a possible variant of the device according to the present invention, said anatomic handle 1 may be replaced by an internal, rigid and hollow carrying structure that performs the functions of support for the mechanism, and having an external (totally or partially) soft surface; inside said hollow structure a signal tracer of the pressure of the driver's hand on the external soft surface of said handle; the signals produced by the means tracing the pressure are therefore elaborated by the electronic control centre which in turn feeds above mentioned motoreducer.
In a further possible variant, said potentiometer 5 may be replaced with a means for varying a light emission and the corresponding wires 7 and 10 with optic fibres, having all the same purpose of sending signals to said electronic control central 11.
PCMT95/000
Furthermore, in possible variants, the handle 13 of figure 4 may be the vertical axis to the plane of the steering-wheel, or handle 14 of figure 3 the horizontal axis with a lateral support 15.
