Description
A WORK TABLE FOR MACHINE TOOLS, MACHINING CENTRES AND
SIMILAR
The present invention concerns a worktable for machine tools, machining centres and the like for the turning and milling of workpieces, of the type comprising a platform of predetermined diameter supported for rotation about an axis by a base, and rotatable by drive means.
As is known, machining, especially when pieces are of medium or large dimensions, demands that several turning operations, and a similar number of milling operations, are performed with a single positioning of the piece.
The term turning operation is understood to mean working in which the platform is rotated at a predetermined working speed and is controlled by a velocity feed-back system, in the so-called mandrel mode. The term milling operation, however, means those operations in which the platform is rotated at a predetermined speed, for example of advance, in a position feed-back system, in the so- called axial mode.
The object of the present invention is to devise a platform having structural and functional characteristics which satisfy the aforesaid requirement, while at the same time being of exceptionally simple construction.
This object is achieved by means of a work table of the specified type, characterised in that the drive means comprise a three-phase synchronous electric motor co¬ axial with the platform and in direct contact with it.
Further characteristics and advantages of the table according to the present invention will become clear from the following description of a preferred embodiment given by way of non-limitative example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a schematic perspective view in partial section of a table according to the invention; and
Figure 2 is a schematic view of a detail of the table of Figure 1.
With reference to the accompanying drawings, the reference numeral 1 indicates generally a work table for the turning and milling particularly of work pieces of medium and large dimensions.
The table 1 comprises a base 2 and a circular platform 3 of a predetermined diameter D1 selected between medium and large, starting from 1(300 rrm and suitable to withstand a torque of at least 3000 Nm.
In the example the platform has a diameter Dl of 2500 mm.
The platform 3 is supported by the base 2 for rotation
about a vertical axis X-X by means of rolling bearings 4 and is rotatable by drive means 5.
A transducer 6, for example an encoder, is supported by the base 2 and is activated by the platform 3. The transducer 6 preferably has a high resolution section 7 and a low resolution section 8.
A control unit 9 completes the table.
The drive means 5 for the table of the invention comprises a three-phase synchronous electric motor 10 which is coaxial with the platform 3.
The motor 10 is of a type known in itself which has already found various technical application. It is, for example, used to rotate telescopes for astronomical observation at very low velocities. A linear version is also used to drive high-speed transport means.
The motor 10 has a stator 11 fixed directly to the base 2 and a rotor 12 fixed directly to the platform 3, such that the motor is in direct contact with the platform itself.
The stator 11 comprises a predetermined number of C- section annular sectors 13 open towards the axis X-X and defining a cylindrical outer wall 14, having a diameter
D2 substantially equal to the diameter Dl of the platform, and two flanges 15 and 16, respectively upper and lower, the lower flange being fixed to the base 2.
Windings 17 and 18 are positioned against the two flanges 15 and 16 respectively and define a cavity 19 between them.
Each annular sector 13 comprises two parallel plates 20 and 21, formed substantially as sectors of a circular ring and respectively constitute the C-shape flanges 15 and 16. The two opposite circumferential ends of the plates 20 and 21 are attached to two identical radial spacer walls 22.
The two walls converge on the axis X-X at a pre¬ determined angle to each other, for example 30°.
The rotor 12 is in the form of a circular ring 23 and includes an outer annular portion 24 which carries, on its opposite faces, a plurality of magnets 25 constituting the poles, and which extends into the cavity 19 so as to define opposing air gaps with the windings 17 and 18. The ring 23 further comprises an inner annular portion 26 which projects from the cavity 19 and is attached to the platform 3.
The control equipment 9 includes a power supply 27
connected to supply the motor 10 and a numeric control unit 28, having a mandrel control section 29 for controlling the platform during turning operations in a velocity feed-back system, and a control section 30 in the axial mode, for controlling the platform during milling operations in a position feed-back system.
The power supply 27 is connected to the unit 28 to receive a reference signal. A switch 31 connects the supply 27 alternately to the section 29 and to the section 30 of the unit 28.
The numeric control unit 28 and the power supply 27 are connected to the transducer 6 to receive a feedback control signal. A switch 32 connects the numeric control unit 28 and the power supply 27 alternately to the high resolution part 7 and to the low resolution part 8 of the transducer 6 as necessary.
The table according to the invention has the advantage of an exceptionally simple construction so that practically indefinite operation can be expected without the necessity of periodic overhauling, maintenance and adjustment. The platform is in fact driven to rotate constantly without play and without the backlash typical of transmissions including kinematic chains with reduction gears, used until now.
The table according to the invention can, in addition, be an accessory for use as a machine tool or machining centre, or as an integral part of it, enabling improved performance in either case.
Not the least advantage of the table according to the present invention is that it is of particularly compact dimensions.
Obviously, a person skilled in the art would be able to introduce numerous modifications and variants to the table described above in order to satisfy contingent and specific requirements, all however remaining within the scope of the protection of the invention as defined in the following claims.
