Abstract

A composite yarn (1) comprised of a chain stitch yarn (3) knitted from a yarn A and at least an inlay yarn (2) of a yarn (B) inserted into the chain stitch yarn (3) along a longitudinal direction thereof. Since the chain stitch yarn (3) and the inlay yarn (2) are surely interlaced with each other in the composite yarn (1), there is little chance that the chain stitch yarn (3) and the inlay yarn (2) are separated in use. A preferable apparatus for manufacturing the composite yarn in accordance with the present invention may include individual winding mechanisms downstream of each knitting station (11a to 11f) in a warp knitting machine.

Claims

AMENDED CLAIMS[received by the International Bureau on 26 October 1995 (26.10.95); original claim 1 amended; remaining claims unchanged (2 pages)]
1. (amended) A composite yarn comprised of a chain stitch yarn of a yarn A manufactured by repeating successively a knitting process in which a new knitting stitch is formed by bending a yarn portion continuing to a yarn portion constituting a preceding knitting stitch to make a loop of a new knitting stitch and passing the loop of the new knitting stitch through a loop of the preceding knitting stitch, and at least an inlay yarn of a yarn B inserted into the chain stitch yarn along a longitudinal direction thereof.
2. A composite yarn according to claim 1, wherein yarns, in which the type and size of fiber, the yarn morphology such as monofilament, multifilament, the number of twists, the number of crimps or the like, the characteristics of yarn, and the fineness of yarn are completely the same, are used as the yarn A and the yarn B.
3. A composite yarn according to claim 1, wherein yarns, in which at least one of the type and size of fiber, the yarn morphology such as monofilament, multifilament, the number of twists, the number of crimps or the like, the characteristics of the yarn, and the fineness of the yarns is different, are used as the yarn A and the yarn B.
4. A composite yarn according to claim 3, wherein either one of the yarn A and the yarn B is a stretchable yarn and the other yarn is a non-stretchable yarn.
5. A composite yarn according to claim 4, wherein the composite yarn is formed of yarn A of a non- stretchable yarn which can be dissolved by a solvent including water or decomposited by heat, and yarn B of a stretchable yarn, which can be used as an embroidery yarn for an embroidery lace.
6. A composite yarn according to claim 4, wherein the composite yarn is formed of a yarn A of a non-
A ENDED SHEET(ARΗCLE19) stretchable filament and a yarn B of a stretchable yarn, which has stretchability and luster.
7. A composite yarn according to claim 3, wherein either one of the yarn A and the yarn B is a filament and the other yarn is a bulked yarn such as a spun yarn, a textured yarn or the like.
8. A method for manufacturing a composite yarn
AMENDED SHEET (ARΗCLE19) STATEMENT UNDER ARTICLE19
FR-A-2 492 418 was cited in the International Search Report as a document belonging to the category "X". However, a knitted yarn illustrated in Fig. 4 of FR-A- 2 492 418 is not a chain stitch yarn used in a composite yarn in accordance with the present invention, and is a yarn which can be only manufactured by a hand knitting technique, but cannot be manufactured by an industrial manufacturing method. Accordingly, claim 1 was amended to clarify constitution of the chain stitch yarn which can be manufactured by using a modified warp knitting machine.
