Abstract

In a device in buildings having a wall structure (1) with an external wall covering (2), a roof structure (3) with an external roof covering (6), a gutter (8) disposed so as to receive rain fall from the roof covering and at least one cover element (13), which overlaps the upper edge portion of the wall covering and forms an upper termination of the outer side of the wall structure, the cover element (13) is provided with a step (15), which forms a supporting seat for the gutter (8).

Description

A device in buildings
FIELD OF THE INVENTION AND PRIOR ART
The present invention relates to a device in buildings of the type according to the preamble of the appended claim 1.
Such a device is described in US patent 4 077 171. In this device the holder elements are secured to the buil¬ ding by securing means extending horizontally and through a leg of the holder elements bent upwardly, the gutter and the cover element. Each holder element has an abrupt rebending. Upon important loads on the gutter as a result of ice there are risks for deformation of the holder ele¬ ment, and it is even possible that the holder element is broken away from the securing means. The known device is probably also rather difficult to mount. Thus, the purpose is that one single securing means shall serve to secure not only the cover element and the gutter but also the holder element itself. Accordingly, all these components must be held in position during the securing operation, which is difficult for the operator to realize and causes risks of incorrect localizations.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The object of the present invention is to develop the known device so that the gutter and the cover element get a very strong bearing and support, respectively, and that the mounting may be carried out very rationally with corrugated roof coverings. 668
This ob"ject is primarily obtained by providing the device with the characteristics according to the characterizing part of the appended claim 1. The securing of the rib of the cover element to the .-.underside of the corrugated roof covering means that loads on the cover element will due to the gutter be transmitted to the roof covering, v/hich has a very high rigidity. Furthermore, the provision of the rib in combination with the corrugated roof cove¬ ring gives the possibility to provide the holder element with hooking means being easy to introduce into the cavitie of the corrugations and to apply around the outer portion of the rib. As a result of this the mounting may be car¬ ried out extremely rapidly and easily. Furthermore, the holder elements will load the rib of the cover element in parallel with the plane of the rib, through which also important loads upon the gutter, for instance as a result of ice, without any problems will be carried; such loads are transmitted from the holder elements through the rib and after that to the roof covering.
Advantageous developments of the device according to the invention are objects of the dependent claims 2-10.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF A PREFERRED EMBODIMENT OF THE INVENTION
The building partially illustrated in fig 1 has a wall structure generally denoted by 1 with an external wall covering 2, which consists of a comparatively thin ma¬ terial with a corrugated shape. In the example the wall covering 2 is supposed to consist of trapezoidally profile metal sheet, the profiles of v/hich extend substantially horizontally. The wall structure 1 comprises a conventio¬ nal supporting frame work with columns, cross bars etc, with respect to which the wall covering 2 is fixed in a suitable manner. If desired a plate may be arranged outside this supporting frame work, and the wall cove¬ ring 2 will in its turn be arranged on the outer side of the plate. In the wall structure there is traditional insulating against heat transport and the v/all structure may on its inner side have a wall covering of similar or completely different kind than the one on the outer side of the v/all structure.
The roof structure 3 of the building is generally denoted by 3 and comprises roof rails 4, which in the region of the wall structure 1 may be adapted to be supported by the v/all supporting frame v/ork included therein. A carrying **
corrugated layer 5 is in the example arranged upon the roof rails 4, the. corrugations of said layer extending substantially perpendicularly to the roof rails 4. An insulating- material layer with comparatively high carry¬ ing capability is arranged upon the layer 5. An external covering 6 is in its turn arranged upon the insulating material layer. This- external roof covering 6 consists in the example also of a corrugated material v/ith compa¬ ratively small thickness, e.g. a metal sheet. The corru¬ gations of the roof covering 6 extend substantially in parallel with the pitch, i.e. in fig 1 in parallel with the drawing plane and the double arrow 7.
A gutter 8 is disposed under the lower edge portion 9 of the roof covering 6 so as to receive rain v/ater there¬ from. The gutter 3 has a bottom denoted by 10, an inner side wall 11 and an outer side v/all 12.
A cover element 13 overlaps the upper edge portion 14 of the wall covering 2 and forms an upper termination of the outer side of the v/all structure. The cover ele¬ ment is provided with a step 15, v/hich forms a supporting seat for the gutter 8.
The cover element 13 has a first substantially flat por¬ tion 16, which is located above the wall covering 2. In the example this portion 16 extends substantially ver¬ tically and it bears against portions 17 of the building located above the wall covering 2. These portions 17 ex¬ tend substantially vertically and may be constituted by a plate, one or several girders etc depending on the em¬ bodiment of the structure chosen. The portions 17 may be considered to be a part of either the wall structure 1 or the roof structure 3 or both of them depending on the embodiment of the building chosen. 0K**
Furthermore, the cover element has a second substantially flat portion 18, v/hich is located below the first one 16 and displaced outwardly therefrom as v/ell as overlaps the wall covering 2. The step 15 forms a- steplike tran¬ sition section between the portions 16 and 18 and has in the example a substantially horizontal upper support surface for co-operation with the gutter 8. The two por¬ tions 16 and 18 of the cover element 13 are both substan¬ tially vertical and accordingly substantially parallel to each other. The displacement in the horizontal direc¬ tion between the first and second portion 16, 18 of the cover element 13 corresponds in the example to the dimen¬ sion of the v/all covering 2 perpendicular to its substan¬ tially vertical principle plane.
The horizontal extension of the step 15 constitute at least 10% of the v/idth of the bottom 10 of the gutter and preferably at least 20% thereof. In the example the v/idth of the step 15 constitutes about 25% of the v/idth of the bottom 10 of the gutter. Thus, it is essential that the gutter 8 gets an excellent support by the step 15 in the vertical direction.
The upper edge portion of the cover element 13 is fixed to the roof covering 6, more exactly to its underside. The upper edge portion of the cover element has a rib 19, which extends substantially parallel to the plane of the roof covering 6. Securing means 20 in the form of screws, rivets or the like extend through the vally portions of the corrugations of the roof covering 6 and through the rib 19 of the cover element, so that a good interconnection is obtained therebetv/een. Advantageously the rib 19 extends in the direction away from- the very gutter 8.
In the mounted state of the gutter 8 the bottom 10 of the gutter 8 rests upon the step 15 and the side wall 11 of the gutter bears against the portion 16 of the co¬ ver element 13. Securing means indicated at 21 in the form of" screws, rivets, nails or the like extend through the side wall 11 of the gutter and through the portion
16 of the cover element and into the portions 17 JLying t erebehind. It would also be possible that the securing means 21 only interconnect the side wall 11 and the por¬ tion 1 6 and accordingly do not extend into the portions
17 lying behind. The portion 18 of the cover element is by means of securing means 22 of a similar kind fixed to the wall covering 2, more exactly on the upper side of its corrugations.
Traction force resisting holder elements 23 are in enga¬ gement with the upper edge of the cover element 13, and they are also in engagement with the side v/all 12 of the gutter turned away from the v/all structure. As it appears from fig 2 the holder elements 23 are arranged at suitable mutual distances in the longitudinal direction of the gutter 0. Each holder element 23 has at one of its ends a hook-shaped means 24, e.g. obtained by rebending the edge portion of the holder element. This hook means 24 grips about the extremety of the rib 19 of the cover ele¬ ment 13, The opposite end of the holder element 23 has in the mounted state of the device also a hook-shaped end portion 25 obtained by rebending the end portion of the holder element.
In building the building according to the invention the cover element 13 is applied after securing the wall co¬ vering 2, so that its portion 18 covers the upper edge of the wall covering. Subsequently the cover element is fixed by means of the securing means 20 and 22 with respect to the wall covering and the roof covering 6. In doing 0K**
so it is possible to either apply the roof covering 6 firstly and after that the cover element 13, so that its rib 19 is pushed under the v/all covering, or first of all apply the cover element 13 and subsequently the roof covering 6. It is possible to secure the portion 16 of the cover element 13 to the portions 17 of the v/all or roof structure by particular securing elements not illust¬ rated here, before arranging the gutter 8. After that the gutter 8 is arranged, so that it will rest upon the step 15 according to fig 1, and the securing means 21 are applied. Finally the holder elements 23 are arranged and their ends provided with the hook means 24 can be introduced into the apertures formed in the lower edge portion of the roof covering 6 by the rising portions of the corrugations as this appears from fig 2. The holder elements 23 have preferably been provided with the hook means 24 in advance, so that a simple hooking operation may be carried out. As far as it concerns the hook embodi¬ ment of the other ends of the holding elements 23 it is possible to manufacture the holder elements 23 with a comparatively weak rebending in order to facilitate the rebending over the rib 26 bent outwardly at the upper end of the side wall 12. Thus, the installer carries ot the further rebending required for obtaining the hook form 25 in fig 1, possibly by means of an appropriate tool.
The mutual securing of the cover element 13 and the roof covering 6 by means of the securing means 20 results in an excellent counter action against influences in the lifting direction upon the roof covering 6 created by wind, since it is true that a roof covering 13 is well secured to the rest of the building by the securing means 21 and 22 and any further securing means. Even if it is preferred to produce the gutter as well as the cover element 13 as metal profiles with compara¬ tively thin- alls, also other materials may come into consideration, e,g. plastic. For the sake of clearness it has not been illustrated in the drawings how the gutter 8 may be connected to water draining spouts by means of well known techniques and the gable pieces intended to be applied to the gutter at the end thereof, so that this forms a trough, does not appear from the drawings either.
Depending on the embodiment of the building there is some¬ times a risk for important wind loads on the gutter 8. The gutter is well held by the holder elements 23, so that loads on the gutter directed downwardly may be carried Thus, the wind loads referred to here are such tending to pivot the gutter upwardly about a pivot at the secu¬ ring point of the gutter. in the wall structure or other¬ wise act upon the gutter or parts thereof in the direc¬ tion inwardly towards the wall structure. In the embodi¬ ment according to figs 3-5 the holder elements are particu¬ larly designed to be able to carry pressure loads in order to carry such wind loads. In figs 3-5 the same reference numerous are used as in figs 1 and 2, solely with the addition of the letter a. The holder element 23a- has more exactly a first support means 27 at one of its ends for counter acting movments of the side walls 12a of the gut¬ ter turned away from the wall structure in the direction upwardly and/or inwardly towards the plane of the wall structure. Furthermore, the holder element has a second support means 28 at its other end for bearing against the second side wall of the gutter or alternatively agains the cover element 13a, if the wall 11a does not extend high enough.
As it appears from figs 4 and 5 the holder element 23a 1668
extends between the side walls of the .gutter obliquely downwardly as seen in the direction away from the wall structure. This improves the capability of the holder element to counteract movements of the outer portion of the gutter turned away from the wall structure upwardly or obliquely upwardly/inwardly towards the wall structure.
The support means 27 and 28 of the holder element 23a are formed by portions of the holder elements projecting downwardly. In the embodiment illustrated the holder ele¬ ment is more precisely provided with a longitudinal groove 29 pressed down, which results in a considerably increased rigidity and capability to carry pressures in the longi¬ tudinal direction of the holder element .being preferably band-shaped. The support means 27 and 28 are constituted by the end portions of this groove 29.
The groove 29 is at each end of the holder element termi¬ nated by a transversal cut 30, and the support means 27 and 28 are formed by the groove ends obtained by the cuts. The cuts 30 are suitably carried out at the same time as the groove 29 is pressed down.
As it appears mainly from fig 5 the hook means 24a has an end portion 31 which facilitates the gripping about the rib 19a of the cover element. More precisely the end 31 is bent downwardly and extends to the point below the prolongation of the lower boundery of the groove 29, so that the end 31 serves to guide the end of the rib 19a into the room formed by the hook means 24a.
Thus, the groove 29 will be partly recessed in the gutter and serves as spacer between the gutter wall 12a and the other gutter wall 11a or the cover element 13a. Of course it is possible to arrange two or more grooves 29, one of the stop means, for instance 27, could be for¬ med by the end portion of one groove, while the other stop means, for instance 28, could be formed by the end portion of another groove.

A device in buildings having a wall structure (1) with an external wall covering (2), "a roof structure (3) with an external roof covering (6), a gutter (8) disposed so as to receive rainfall from the roof covering and a cover element (13) overlapping the upper edge portion (14) of the wall covering and forming an upper termination of the outer side of the wall structure, said element having a substantially horizontal step (15), which forms a suppor¬ ting seat for the gutter (8), traction force resisting holder elements (23) being in engagement with the side wall (12) of the gutter (8) turned away from the wall structure by one of their ends and in engagement with an upper portion of the cover element (13) by their second ends, c h a r a c t e r i s e d in that the upper edge portion of the cover element (13) has a rib (19) which is directed away from the gutter, extends generally pa¬ rallel to the principal plane of the corrugated roof co¬ vering and is secured to the underside of the roof co¬ vering (6) by securing means (20) extending therethrough and through the rib, and that the holder elements (23) by their second ends extend over the rib (19) of the co¬ ver element (13) through apertures formed in the edge portion of the roof covering (6) in consequence of the rising portions of the corrugations and at these second ends have hook-shaped means (24), which grip about the extremity of the rib (19) of the cover element (13).

A device according to claim ^ c h a r a c t e r i ¬ z e d in that the cover element (13) has a first sub¬ stantially flat portion (16), which is located above the wall covering, and a second substantially flat portion (18), which is located below the first one and displaced outwardly therefrom as well as overlaps the wall covering 12
and that the step. (15) forms a transistion section between said first and second portions.
3. A device according to claim 2, c h a r a c t e r i ¬ z e d in that the first and second portions (16, 18) of the cover element (13) are generally parallel.
4. A device according to claim 2 and 3, c h a r a c ¬ t e r i z e d in that the displacement between the first and second portions (16, 18) of the cover element corres¬ ponds to the dimension of the wall covering perpendicular to its principal plane.
5. A device according to any of the claims 2 to 4, c h a r a c t e r i z e d in that the first portion (13) of the cover element (13) bears against and is fixed to one or several vertical surface portions (17), which are located above and are substantially parallel to the wall covering, while the second portion (18) of the cover ele¬ ment is fixed to the wall covering (2).

A device according to claim ^ c h a r a c t e r i ¬ z e d in that the holder elements (23a) are constituted so as to carry pressure stresses, that the holder elements at one of their ends have first support means (27) for counteracting movements of the side wall (12a) of the gutter turned away from the wall structure in the direction up¬ wardly and/or inwardly towards the plane of the wall - structure, and that the holder elements at their second ends have second support means (28) for bearing against the second side wall (11a) of the gutter and/or the cover element (13a) . 7. A device according to claim 6, c h a r a c t e r i ¬ z e in that the holder elements (23a) extend between the side walls of the gutter substantially obliquely down¬ wardly as seen in the direction away from the wall struc¬ ture.
8. A device according to claim 7, c h a r a c t e r i ¬ z e d in that the first and second support means (27, 28) of the holder elements are formed by portions of the holder elements projecting downwardly.
9. A device according to claim 8, c h a r a c t e r i ¬ z e d in that the holder elements (23a) are provided with at least one longitudinal groove (29) pressed down and that the first and second support members (27, 28) are constituted by end portions of the groove or grooves.
10. A device according to claim 9, c h a r a c t e r i ¬ z e d in that at least one groove (29) at each end of the holder elements is terminated by a cut (30) and that the first and second support means (27, 28) are formed by the groove end edges obtained by the cuts.
