Description

The invention relates to a steering device for motor vehicles with a steering wheel carried by a steering spindle and with a baffle pot in which display instruments and / or operating elements are arranged and which is fixed and - seen from the driver - in front of the driver Steering wheel spokes is arranged within the steering wheel.
A steering device of this type is known from DE-OS 21 31 902. In this known device, the impact pot arranged in the steering wheel is firmly connected to a vehicle-fixed, non-rotatable part of the vehicle and the steering wheel is coupled to the steering spindle via a planetary gear. Although this known steering device has the advantage that the impact pot with its display instruments and operating elements always remains fixed to the vehicle and does not rotate together with the steering wheel, it has the serious disadvantage that the technical outlay is relatively great and that the required operational safety is not guaranteed. It cannot be ruled out that in particular faults in the planetary gear, which couples the steering wheel to the steering spindle, occur. The present invention is based on the object of providing a steering device which avoids the disadvantages of the known steering device and which, despite the low technical outlay, is highly reliable and easy to install.
This object is achieved according to the invention in that the steering wheel is rigidly fastened to the steering spindle and in that the impact pot can be coupled to a vehicle-fixed component via at least two movable coupling elements which can be moved in this way by a control part connected to the steering wheel are that at least one coupling element is in the locking position, while another coupling element is movable out of the locking position for the passage of a steering wheel spoke.
In the device according to the invention, the steering wheel is always rigidly connected to the steering spindle via its spokes. The impact pot mounted in the steering wheel nevertheless does not rotate with the steering wheel because one of the coupling elements locks the impact pot against a component that is fixed to the vehicle and thus holds it in place.
- 3 -The coupling elements are expediently parts which engage in recesses, such as bolts, pins, balls, bolts or the like, which are displaceably or * pivotably guided and which can be moved by the control part connected to the steering spindle. Instead of form-fitting coupling elements, however, elements can also be used which produce a coupling by friction. The spokes of the steering wheel can also serve as the control part, so that when a spoke passes a coupling element it is brought directly from its coupling position by this spoke and, after passing through the spoke, is pressed back into the locking position by a spring, for example. - 3 -
The displaceable or pivotable coupling elements can be arranged in the impact pot or on a part fixed to the vehicle. The coupling elements can be pressed by springs against the cam track of a control part, which moves the coupling elements out of their locking position against the force of a spring when passing through a spoke.
The coupling elements can also be used by control. parts are moved, which move the coupling elements both in the locking position and in the unlocking position. In this case, the coupling elements are engaged by the cam track of the control part, for example the outer edge of a control disk. Although the movable coupling elements and their guide and control parts can be designed in such a way that faults cannot occur, it can be expedient to design these parts in such a way that the coupling elements are pushed away from the spokes of the steering wheel if they are not the control parts have been moved into the unlocked position.
An der Rückseite der elastischen bzw. nachgiebi- gen Prallwand kann eine gedruckte Schaltung angebrachtBecause in the steering device according to the invention the steering wheel remains firmly connected to the steering spindle, this device can also be attached to already existing vehicles with little effort. The information for the display instruments and / or the operating elements is advantageously transmitted wirelessly. For this reason, on the one hand in the baffle pot and on the other hand on a vehicle-fixed component, in particular in the vicinity of the baffle pot, electronic transmitting and electronic receiving units are arranged which transmit the information electromagnetically or by means of light or sound waves. In the steering device according to FIGS. 1 and 2, an impact pot 2 is arranged within the steering wheel 1, which has control elements 3 and display instruments 4 on its side facing the vehicle driver, which are used in an impact wall 5. The baffle 5 consists of a resilient material and the baffle 2 is filled with cushioning material.

VIPO * bound, which in turn is rotatably mounted in the steering column 8. A fairing 9 surrounds the steering wheel hub 6 and the upper part of the steering spindle 7 and the steering column 8. The steering wheel hub 6 is connected to the steering wheel 1 via spokes 10. So that the baffle 2 does not turn when the steering wheel 1 rotates, the baffle is held by movable coupling elements 11 which couple the baffle 2 to a part fixed to the vehicle, namely the steering column 8. The coupling elements 11 in FIG. 2 are designed as displaceable pins or bolts, which are guided displaceably in guide bodies 13 and which are moved into an unlocking position and into the locking position by a control disk 12 working in the axial direction. 2 shows the lower coupling pin 11 in the locking or coupling position. It engages in a recess 14 located at the bottom 15 of the impact pot 2. The upper coupling pin 11, however, is axially displaced by the cam track 16 of the control disk 12 so far that it clears the way for the passage of the upper spoke 10. The movable coupling elements 11 are radially offset from the spokes 10 such that a coupling element 11 is always in the coupling position. The bolt-shaped coupling elements 11, which can be moved essentially axially to the steering spindle 7, are moved by the control disk 12 both into the coupling position and into the decoupling position.
For this purpose, the cam track 16 engages in the recesses 17 of the coupling elements on the edge of the control disk 12.
However, it is also possible to have the coupling elements 11 rest on one side of a cam plate only if these coupling elements are are loaded springs that press the coupling elements into the cam track of the control disc 12.
As shown in FIG. 2, a transmitter and receiver electronics 18 are arranged in the baffle 2, which cooperates with a transmitter and receiver electronics 19 which is arranged in the vicinity of the baffle 2 on a part 8 fixed to the vehicle. In this way it is possible to wirelessly connect the operating elements 3 and display instruments 4 to the electrical consumers and measuring points. The result of this wireless transmission of the information is that the assembly effort of the impact pot arranged inside the steering wheel is low.
The operating elements 3 and display instruments 4 can be connected to the receiver and transmitter electronics 18 in the impact pot 2 via a printed circuit arranged on the rear side of the impact wall 5. The transmitter and receiver electronics 19 on the vehicle-fixed part 8 are connected via a cable harness 24 to the various electrical consumers and measuring points.
In the exemplary embodiment according to FIG. 3, the coupling elements 11 are arranged at the free ends of pivotable holding members 20 which are fastened to the part 8 which is fixed to the vehicle. The coupling elements 11 are held in the coupling position by return springs. Since the holding members 20 are leaf springs in the exemplary embodiment according to FIG. 3, no additional springs are therefore required in order to hold the coupling elements 11 in the coupling position. A control disk 12 is fastened on the steering spindle 7 and presses the pivotable holding members 20 radially outward when a spoke 10 passes a coupling point. Instead of the control disk 12, 6 cams can also be attached to the steering wheel hub. be ordered, which move the coupling elements into the unlocking position during the passage of the spokes.
In the exemplary embodiment according to FIG. 4, the coupling elements 11 are provided with run-up surfaces 21 which protrude into the range of movement of the spokes 10. In the coupling state shown, a spring 22 presses the coupling member 11 into a groove-shaped recess 14 arranged on the bottom 15 of the impact pot 2. If a spoke 10 wants to pass through this coupling point, this spoke 10 presses on a run-up surface 21 of the coupling element 11 and presses the coupling element 11 against the action of the spring 22 in the Entkupplur.gsstellung. The coupling elements 11 can be arranged both on the part 8 fixed to the vehicle or in the impact pot 2. Instead of a positive engagement of the coupling elements 11, a frictional engagement of the coupling elements 11 can also be provided. Furthermore, the coupling elements 11 can also cooperate with elastic or corrugated or otherwise roughened counter surfaces.
In the exemplary embodiment according to FIG. 5, the coupling element 11, the return spring, the run-up surface 21 and the pivotable holding member are formed by a curved leaf spring which automatically sets itself into the locking position and which is supported by the spokes 10 of the steering wheel " 1 is pushed out of its coupling position.
