Fug 3 Wily. cases. 612? s gf d UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES B. CLARK, OF BUFFALO, NlfllV YORK.
DESIGN FOR HINGES.
Specification forming part of Design No. 8,900, dated January 11, 1876; application filed December 24, 1875. [Term of Patent 14 years] (Last; 0.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES B. CLARK, of Bufl'alo, in the county of Eric and State of New York, have originated and designed a Pattern for Hinges, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing making part of this specification.
My design is fully represented in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure l is a front elevation. Fig. 2 is a side elevation, looking in the direction of the arrow in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is atop View.
Similar letters indicate corresponding parts.
The letter A designates a surface-hinge for blinds, to which my design is here applied. The side edges of the base-plates B B are of irregular form, the upper and lower corners 1 1 being rounded and made to project, as shown. Next to the rounded corners are the concave curves 2 2,\vl1ich terminate in the angular projections 3 3, and between the angular projections 3 are the convex curves 44, at the middle of the side edges of the base-plates. The side edges of the base-plates are provided with a bond, 5, which projects above the sur face of the base-plates, and which head has the same curved and angular outline as the edges of said plates. The said bead is also continued from the rounded corners l 1 along the top and bottom edges of the base-plates to their inner edges. The upper projecting ledge G of the hinge is provided with an upright rib, D, which has on its edge a convex curve, 6, at top, running into a horizontal and slightly concave part, 7, which ends in an angular projection, 8, which is followed by an ogee outline that vanishes in the horizontal surface of the ledge O. The same lodge is provided on its outer or left-hand side with a horizontal rib, E, whose edge has a convex part, 9, followed by a concave curve, 10, terminating in an angular projection, 11, which is followed bya concave curve, 12, and then by the rounded front edge of the ledge. On the face of the lower ledge F is an escutcheon, G, and the right-hand lower corner of the ledge F has a rounded projection, 13, above which is a recess, 14.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The design for the base-plates B B, consisting of the projecting rounded corners 1 1, the curves 2 2, angular projections 3 3, and central convex curves 4 4, substantially as shown.
2. The design for the top of rib D, consisting of the convex curve 6, the concave part 7, the angular projection 8, and the ogee part, substantially as described.
3. The design for the horizontal rib E, consisting of the convex part 9, concave curve 10, angular projection 11, and the concavity following it, substantially as shown and described.
4. The design of the escutcheon G on the face of the ledge F. substantially as shown.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 23d day of December, 1875.
