DESIGN FOR AN ORGAN-CASE.
Specification forming part of Design No. 7,830, dated November 3, 1874; application llled September 14, 1674 [Tenn of Patent 14 years] CASE A.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL HAYWARD, of Boston, Massachusetts, have invented a Design for an Organ-Case, and assigned to J. Estey S: 60., of Brattleborough, Vermont, of which the following is a specification:
My improved design is fully represented in the accompanying photographic illustration; and it consists in the form of the ends of the case, and of the end handles, also of the front corners of the case, the front board, and the music-rack, as hereinafter set forth.
On the ends of the case, at a short distance from the top, a rectangular projection, h, extends across the end and stands out boldly in relief therefrom. The top of the projection is united with the plane of the end by an ornamental molding, as shown, and its ends depend at right angles and unite with the pilesters a (1, arranged on each side. The pilasters extend a short distance down each side of the end, and rest upon the top of the braclc ets c c, at about the center of the case. The brackets are joined by a cylindrical bar, b, which extends transversely from one to the other, and forms the handles of the case. The handles are ornamented with bands at their center and ends, and are insulated from the plane of the case, as represented. The brackets c c terminate in flat pilnsters 11 i, with fluted surface, which extend downward to the base of the instrument.
The front corners of the case are composed of consoles d, which emerge at short distance below the key-board and extend to the base. The consoles are ornamented on the side near the top, with a large curved rosette, e, and for a short distance below the rosette are insulated from the case, as represented. The console terminates in the bifurcated base f,
formed to resemble a hoof or cloven foot, which rests on the projecting rectangular corner of the base. The music-desk kis designed in open work, so as to present a central line of star or quarterfoil shaped forms, and upon each side thereof a line of serratesha-ped and circular openings. A roll or cylindrical bar, 9, extends transversely across the front board of the case immediately over the pedals, and its ends are joined with the inverted brackets inclosing the pedals, which gives an appearance of relief and finish to this part of the case, and partly conceals the pednlopening. Above the roll on the center of the front board, is formed an oblong panel, as shown.
I claim as 1nyinvention 1. The design for the end of an organ-case, composed of the pllasters a and 'i, brackets c c, and projection ii, substantially as shown and described.
2. The design for the handles of an organcase, formed of the cylindrical bar b, and brackets c c, substantially as shown.
3. The design for the front corners of an organ-case, composed of the consoles d5, of the form substantially as herein shown and described.
4. The design for the front board of the orgen-case, formed of the roll 9, substantially as set forth.
5. The design for the music-desk 1:, substantially as herein shown and described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto signed my name in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
SAMUEL HAYWARD.
Viitnesses:
J OHN M. MERRILL, FRANCIS S. DYER.
