Ille it known that I, THOMAS E. WOOD, of Portsmouth, in the county of ltoekingham and State of New Hampshire, have invented a Design for Coffin-Plates, of which the following is a specification:
The nature of my design is full; re 'ircsented in the accompanying illustration, to which reference is made.
A is the body of tho plate, which is provided with the central oval aperture B, curved apertures 1 1", and straight apertures E15. On one side of said apertures there is a shieldshaped indentation, U, in the face of the plate, provided with the word Died, permanently painted or printed thereon. On the opposite side of said apertures there is a like indentation, 0, provided with the word Aged, painted, as aforesaid. These indentations are sunk below the surface of the plate about oneeighth of an inch, the side and top outlines a 1) c d curving inwardly, and the bottom foutwardly, as shown. I) is an ornamental typeholder, provided with crimped or serrated edges g g, inwardly-eurving corners h h h h, and straight ends i i. In outline the main plate has a straight base, E, the ends consisting of corresponding inwardly-sweeping long curves 7: 7:. The lower corners are formed with short double inwardly-sweeping curves I Z l l, and the upper corners with short single inwardly-bent curves at m. At the vertex of the plate, or immediately over the central opening B, there is a pyramidal point, r, tianked. by two corresponding semicircular points, z:, and the long and short downwardly orinwardly bending curves y 3 p p.
