PATENT OFFICE.
EUSTACE CREES AND CHARLES S. COURT, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND, ASSIGNORS TO THE WATSON AND NEWELL COMPANY, A CORPORATION OF RHODE ISLAND.
DESIGN FOR A HANDLE FOR SPOONS OR SIMILAR ARTICLES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 36,316, dated May 12, 1903.
Application filed March 26, 1903. Serial No. 149,762. Term of patent '7 years.
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, EUSTAOE CEEES and CHARLES S. COURT, citizens of the United States, residing in the city of Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented and produced a new, original, and ornamental Design for the Handle of a Spoon or Similar Article, of which the following is a specification, reference being \0 had to the accompanying drawings, forming part thereof.
Figure l is a view of the obverse side, and Fig. 2 a view of the reverse side, of our design as applied to the handle of a spoon.
The leading feature of our design consists in the ornamental arrangement of the blossoms and foliage of the sun flower represented in relief.
A represents the head, and B the shank: of
the handle, the outline of which is defined by the marginal lines 3 3.
On the obverse side, Fig. 1, the head A contains a large full-blown sunflower a, surmounting the stem 5, which extends down- 2 5 ward across the upper half of the shank B, passing underneath the flower 6, below which it forms part of the marginal ornamentation of section B. Above the flower 4 is a bud 7, which forms the apex of the handle. Disap- 0 pearing beneath it from below are leaves 8.
Above the flower 6 are the leaf 9 and the fo-' liate 10; below it are a bud 11 and leaves 12.
In the narrow part of the shank B is the bud 13, below which are leaves 1-1. At the base of the handle the lines 3 3 inclose a cluster of leaves 15, from between which projects a bud 16.
On the reverse side, Fig. 2, clusters of leaves, buds, and flowers branch out from the lines 3 3 at various points and form themselves into wreaths around the two plain surfaces 4 and 5. At the base of the handle is a sprig of foliage 6.
It is evident that our design is applicable to the handles of articles other than but similar .5 to spoons.
Having described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The ornamental design for the handle of a spoon or similar article, as herein shown and described.
In testimony whereof We have affixed our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
EUSTACE CREES. CHARLES S. COURT.
