UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN M. VAN ORDEN, OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY.
DESIGN FOR A CORSET.
T0 at whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN M. VAN ORDEN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented a certain new and original Design for a Corset, of which the following is a specification.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a view in perspective of a corset embodying my new and original design, while Fig. 2 is a view thereof in rear perspective, and Fig. 3 a plan View of the belt portion of one side laid flat.
The novel and pleasing efiect constituting my invention resides in the contour of the lower portion of the corset, with its belt effect adjacent the hip region on each side, and is produced by an integral extension on of the belt portion 1) of the corset below the straight lower edge 0, the extension beginning at a point about one-third distant from the busk d and curving downward in a rather flat but decided are which runs well across the hip region toward the rear. A line of stitching e adds to the appearance of strength presented by the hip region as a whole, while an aspect of flexibility and capacity for conformation to the curves of the hip is yielded by leaving a large area of the hip region uninterrupted externally by stay-pockets.
Having thus described my design, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patcut, is-
The design for a corset substantially as herein shown and described.
Signed at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, this 9th day of December, A. D. 1901.
JOHN M. VAN ORDEN.
