SPECIFICATION forming part of Design N0. 28,098, dated December 28, 1897.
Application filed October 22, 1897. Serial No. 656,101. Term of patent 14 years.
To @ZZ whom t may concern.-
Beit known that I, GEORGE L. LoBsITZ, a citizen of the United States, residing at Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New 5 Jersey, have invented a new and original Design for a Hinge, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a new and original design for a hinge; and it has for its object .o to provide a design of this character that shall be both useful and ornamental.
The leading feature of the design resides in one leaf or member of the hinge being elongated and of a tapering width and provided i5 with a triangular group of circular openings, scroll-webs extending between and around said openings, a leaf-like figure at one edge between two of the openings, and a triangular cluster of leaf-like figures at the outer :o extremity' or point thereof, and the other hinge leaf or member being of a substantially triangular shape, with irregularly-scalloped edges, and provided with superficial lines or ridges scrolled toward the corner-angles of the :5 leaf or member, the edge of said leaf or member at the apex thereof having a leaf-like configuration.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view of a hinge embodying the herein-described deo sign. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional View thereof.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, the numeral l designates a hinge essentially comprising the separate leaves or members 5 l and 2, respectively. The leaf 01 member l is elongated and of a tapering width and is provided with a triangular group of circular openings 3. The said leaf or member 1 is further provided with scroll-webs 4, extending between and around said openings 3, a 4o leaf-like flgu re 5 at one edge and between two of the openings 3, and a triangular cluster G of leaf-like figures located at the outer extremity or point thereof. The other hinge leaf or member 2 is of a substantial triangu- 45 lar shape, with an irregularly-scalloped edge, and is provided with superficial lines or ridges 7 scrolled toward the corner-angles of the leaf or member. The edge of the leaf or member 2 at the apex thereof has a leaf-like con- 5o figuration, as indicated at 8, and which completes the essential features of the design.
The leaves or members l and 2 are provided at their adjacent corners with overlapping ears 9, connected together by the pintle 10, 5 5 on which is arranged a spring 11, having separate reversely-coiled portions, a central app1 oximately U -shaped loop 12,bearin g against one of the leaves or members, and angled terminals 13, bearing against the other leaf 6o or member, and, while the spring referred to forms a necessary part of the hinge, still it will be understood that the same forms no part of the design contemplated by the present invention. 65
Vhat I claim is- The design for a hinge, herein shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in 7o the presence of two witnesses.
