Description

OR D 289081 EX DESIGN.
A. S. COMSTOCK.
HANDLE BAR.
Patented Dec; 21, 1897.
UNITED STATES ALPHONSO S. COMSTOCK,
PATENT OFFICE.
OF EVANSTON, ILLINOIS.
DESIGN FOR A HANDLE-BAR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 28,081, dated December 21, 1897.
Application filed June 5, 1897. Serial No. 639,629. Term of patent '7 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALPHONSO S. COMSTOCK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Evanston, in the county of Cool; and State of Illinois, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a llandle Bar, of which the following is a specification, reference bei'ng had to the accompanying drawings, which are made a part hereof, and in which- Figures 1, 2, and 3 are respectively a side elevation, a plan view, and a front elevation, of a handle-bar embodying the new design.
The handle bar proper comprises three semicircular portions a a a and two straight portions a to which the grips b are secured. The central semicircular portion a has its convexity presented rearward, while the semicircular portions a have their convexities presented forward. All of these semicircular portions lie in the same plane, and this plane forms an angle of about seventy degrees with the front side of the handlebar stem c, it being the intention that the angle shall be such that when in use the semicircular portions of the handle-bar shall lie in a horizontal plane. The straight portions a are parallel with each other and slope downward and rearward, as
shown more plainly in Fig. 1. On the under side of the handle-bar are four eyes (7, disposed substantially as shown in the drawings.
I am aware that it has been proposed to form a handle-bar of three slightly-curved portions disposed with the convexity of the central portion presented rearward and the convexities of the other portions presented forward, but such is not the equivalent of my present design, the chief essential feature of which is the described position of the handlebar stem with relation to the handle-bar,co1nprising the three portions of substantially semicircular shape, so that when in use said semicircular portions shall lie in a substantially horizontal plane.
A minor feature of my design consists in the straight portions (R, which join the outer extremities of the semicircular portions a and slope downward.
WVhat I claim is The design for a handle-bar substantially as herein shown and described.
ALPI-IONSO S. COMSTOOK.
