Al lorney'- UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ARTHUR MIDDLETON ROSE, OF YONKERS, ASSIGNOR TO W. & J. SLOANE,
OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
DESIGN FOR CARPET-BORDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 24,362, dated June 4, 1895.
Application filed May 6,1895. Serial No. 548,345. Term of patent 3% years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARTHUR MIDDLETON ROSE, residing at Yonkers, county of W'estchester, State ofNew York, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a Pattern to be Vi-ought in Wilton and Brussels Carpet Borders in such colors as may be desired,of which the following isaspeciflcation.
In the accompanying drawing, which forms a part of this specification, the length of border shown is that which is required in order to disclose the design as a whole and without unnecessary repetition. Some parts, however, repeat at shorter intervals.
The design may be described as consisting of three series of figures ranged in three bands. Near the top, is the series of figures which constitute the first hand. These figures appear six times within the section of the border which is shown. The repetition is not perfect in each instance since there are two places where these figures are broken into by elements of the band next below. This first band is shown of a darker shade than the background. The second band which is next below, consists of two ornamented undulating and intersecting lines. In conjunction with these lines and on or near each of their intersections are light colored flowers in groups of three. This band of undulating lines and flowers repeats so as to appear twice in the length shown. It is in lighter colors than the background. Near to the other edge of the border is the third band. It is a combination of flowers, leaves and scrolls. A background of uniform tint underlies the two first mentioned bands and the greater part of the third. Below and under the lower edge of the third, the background is shown of a somewhat lighter tint.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The design for a carpet border, substantially as shown.
Signed by me, in New York city, this 4th day of May, 1895.
ARTHUR MIDDLETON ROSE. Witnesses:
