There is also shown thereon a View of a partiallysubmerged wreck and boats in act of saving lives from said wreck. Below the view are the word Metis and figures 1872, being the name of a lost vessel and the year of the disaster.
I have shown this design with a bead border and gracefully-flowing scroll-work, with the addition on shank of spoon of the name Watch Hill, R. I.; but the novel and essential features of my design may be adopted without these accessories.
My design is shown on the face of the broad portion of the handle of spoon; butit may be applied on any portion of spoons or on knives, forks, and generally on silver and silverplated ware and on jewelry, and all ornamented Work. The words \Vatch Hill and Metis and the figures 1872 are notany parts of the ornamental design.
