Description

BEST AVAILABLE C March 4, 1879 6 No. 11 ,04
UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIcE.
ALFRED HEALD, OF PHILADELPHIA, PA., ASSIGNOR TO HUGH MCOALLUM,
ORLANDO GREASE, AND ANDREW J. SLOAN, OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR CARPET-PATTERN.
Specification forming part of Design No. 11,046, dated March 4, 1879; application filed January 18, 1879.
[Term of patent 3-} years] To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALFRED HEALD, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have produced or invented a new and original Design for a Carpet-Pattern, of which the following is a specification:
My design for a carpet-pattern is fully shown in the accompanying photographic illustration.
The design consists, essentially, of two square figures, A and B, arranged in respect to each other as shown. The figure A has a center or body, with floral ornamentation comprising stems, leaves, and flowers, and is surrounded by a border, a, which is broken away at opposite corners of the figure for the introduction of rosettes I).
The prominent features in the ornamentation of the figure B are a circle, d, and crescent 12, so arranged as to present the appearance of one circle overlapping another. Both circle and crescent are ornamented with stems and leaves, arranged as shown. Opposite corners of the figure B are occupied by segmental figures f, also ornamented with stems and leaves. The groundwork of the figure B is too clearly shown to need description.
Irrespective of the colors employed, I claim- 1. The design for a carpet-pattern, comprising the fioral center, the border a, and rosettes b, as shown and described.
2. The design for a carpet pattern, comprising the circle 61 and crescent c, as shown and described.
3. The design for a carpet-pattern, comprising the figures A and B, as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
. ALFRED HEALD.
WVitnesses WILLIAM J. COOPER, HARRY SMITH.
