APPLICATION FILED MAR. 4;1911.

INVENTOR ANDREW FINSEL, OF. EL MORA, NEW JERSEY.
OVERSI-IOE r03 HORSES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 6, 1911.
Application fil ed March 4, 1911. Serial No. 612,211.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANDREW FINSEL, a citizen of the United States of America, and resident of El Mora, in the county of Union and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Overshoes for Horses, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to produce improved means for preventing horses from slipping on snow, ice and moist asphalt pavements.
The nature and scope of the invention are set forth in the claim hereinafter annexed.
The drawings exhibit the structure.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the complete device applied to a horses foot which is indicated by dotted lines. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the device in side elevation. Fig. 3 is an inverted plan. Fig. 4 is a section of a small portion of the device.
The organization embodies a base plate 1, flanges 2 at opposite side edges thereof, spikes 5, having screw ends 4, screwed into holes 3 in said flanges, leather uppers 6, having their lower edges bearing against said flanges, metallic binding strips 7 resting against said uppers, and having countersunk holes, screws 8 passing through said holes, through said uppers and int-0 said flanges for fastening the uppers and flanges together, straps 9 and 11 attached to said uppers and having ends extending for reaching in front and behind the horses hoof, buckles 10, for fastening the ends of the straps 9 together at the front of the hoof, and buckles 12 for fastening the ends of the straps to each otherbehind the hoof, and thereby tightening theuppers upon the slop ing surface of the hoof.
13 represents a horse shoe which may be several sizes of hoof, as the straps permit adjustment of the uppers to hoofs of different size. I
I claim as my invention;
In an over shoe for horses, the combination of a base plate for preventing the sole of the hoof from filling with snow balls, flanges forming a partial rim for said plate and for bearing against another horse shoe attached directly to the hoof of the horse, spikes screwed into said rim for sticking into ice and thus prevent the slipping of the horse, uppers of flexible material whose lower edges bear against the outer edges of said flanges, metal strips with countersunk screw holes, screws in said holes and passing through said uppers and screwed into said flanges for fixing said uppers to said flanges, the uppers projecting upward from the outside edges of said flanges for pressing against the sides of the horses hoof, straps, and buckles provided for said straps, for tightening said uppers against the hoof of the horse.
ANDREW FINSEL.
